I really would have preferred to swap Gudas and Chairot tbh. As much as I like Gudas, he is not a top 4 dman and has a tendency to go for a hit and leave his defensive position exposed. When he make the hit he is good, but when he misses we let goals in...can't afford that in the playoffs. That is what I wanted from the deadline, to pick up a dman that can take his position and move him down a notch in the lineup. Hopefully it's swapped by game 1. ;)

Nice to see Ekblad back though. :)

Dan Rosen didn't even pick the Panthers to win their first-round matchup. :badidea:
crazy. but maybe bulletin board material.

i get the questions of D and goaltending but... c'mon, markstrom and kuemper aren't question marks? kuemper doesn't have way better numbers than bob (or knight). he doesn't have a great playoff track record either. markstrom's only played in 14 playoff games (in one year) and it seems like only yesterday that established himself as an NHL goaltender after years of struggles.

we're in the ballpark with the avs in terms of basic defensive stats though calgary is allowing half a goal less/game.

it will be interesting to see how the odds/attitudes shift as the playoffs go on if the panthers are able to win while continuing to score ~4 goals a game.

If Marchment is out, we're in trouble. This will be a heavy series and we've seen how this team looks without March in the line up...

March helps, but we got Gudas, Chiarot, Bennett, Horny, Lomberg, etc

We aren't short on hitters

you're not wrong, but Marchy has the best combination of talent and being smart about when to be physical and when to let things go. Gudas is on D, Bennett...I love the guy, but I'm always worried about the extra penalty or potential for suspension. Horny/Lomberg are great on the 4th line. Marchy is like Wilson-lite, we need him.

A little off topic but anyone going to the games able to grab some possible swag and send it over to an old Panther fan up in the Great White North? I'll cover shipping and any extra costs!

I plan on going down for a game if the Cats go deep but can't make it down right now.

The more I think about it the better this feels. Getting through east will be damn hard but we start with optimal match-up to get us really going & getting Ek back with game shape. Don't mean to be overconfident but if we lose to this Caps team something has gone terribly wrong. And they are not a bad team, actually they can be a really nasty opponent. But we are just so much better when playing our full game this should and will be our series. Wouldn't be surprised if we lose one game from the first two but as this goes longer the evident will happen.

In playoffs it's so much about mental aspects. I really want to see what happens with this team when they get their first round win in their belt. Second round will be the true test can they raise their game into championship-level, that will be needed.
Injuries!! Washington play hard besides Wilson they also have Hathaway, nasty, if we stay healthy, we will beat them.

I see where you are going with this, unfortunaly, my typing skills are a little clumpsy right now, I just found out I have to have eye surgery, somehow my eyes are unable to hit the proper key and my spellchecker does not work on this site while I am using my cell.
My apologies.

People are going to hate hearing it, but weegs with Eks is the right move to start.

He missed significant time and giving him a familiar pair is a good move
Yeah I was going to say the same thing. He’s already missed time and now has to get back to game speed in a high paced and highly physical playoff environment, you don’t want him to also have to get used to a new partner. Makes the transition back to playing that much more seamless. Plus, that’s a proven good pairing despite what some may think. Weegar just needs to dumb it down a bit instead of occasionally being dumb by trying to do too much. If Weegar keeps it simple then there shouldn’t be any worry.

And it makes sense to keep Forsling and Gudas together as they’ve played together for most of the year together. And while I too would rather Gudas on the 3rd pairing it’d be a matter of would you rather Forsling on the 3rd (with Gudas) and chiarot on the 2nd (with montour) or vice versa. Both chiarot and Forsling deserve to be in a top-4 role, but if they moved chiarot with Forsling then you’d have half the d corp playing on their offhand. This way it’d only be Weegar and he’s already used to it
