You've been around long enough to know it's more than that 'Nicks.
10 years ago when the Oilers drafted Hall was the beginning of the "dynasty" talk from the HFOil ranks. The irony being, the worse they got, and the more 1OA's they racked up, the more talk of dynasties there was. Every year it was the same, "just bad luck, injuries, reffing, GM sucks, Coaches suck: but don't worry next year is the year"!!
So here we are again, the Oilers are an average team, a team that does look better than previous years, but we are hearing about "being the best team in the league the last half of the season", "they will wipe the floor with Chicago's dead corpse", "sweep", "best two players in the league", "best two lines in the league".
I find it so odd that a team that has had zero success in over 14 years can have a fan base as cocky as the Oilers do.
And yes, other teams fans are bitter that the Oilers have managed to acquire 40% of the 1OA's in the last decade, along with several very high first rounders. Who wouldn't be? I'm not sure you'd be so quick to blow it off if it was the Flames racking up 1OA's like they were Happy Meals?
Now I get that the Oilers have a huge presence on HFB, so you're bound to have a lot more nut jobs spouting off stupid things. But it does get old. The way they go on you'd think that the Oil were head and shoulders above the rest of the league, looking to repeat as Cup Champs, not entering the play-in rounds like the rest of the average teams??
But hey, I'm old and irritable, and have been on this site for too damned long.
