The Oilers are always dangerous because of McDavid and Draisaitl and they could potentially make a bit of a run if they get some consistent scoring and good goaltending, but Colorado looks pretty darn good. The Oilers do have a good combination of size, speed, skill, and their depth is more solid then it was the last time they made the playoffs, but a number of things will have to go well for them to go on a prolonged run.
So.. Edmonton has to be the favorites coming out of the west, right?

First Draisaitl wasn't the real deal because he didn't play on his own line. Now he isn't because of "matchups". Shames fans will always find an excuse due to jealousy that their rival has 2 of the top 5 best players currently in the game.
....and yet, the results are pretty on par.
Of course, the Flames haven't had 40% of the 1OA's in the last ten years. Won't even bother to mention the other stupid high picks.
So congratulations, I guess??

At no point in time am I ever going to be upset at someone for having good luck. It's like being ugly and hating good looking people. It wasn't a decision they had any part in.

Considering the post season starts Aug 1st I'm not really sure what you were expecting in the mean time? Oilers legitimately earned a berth unlike many of the teams provided one via league welfare subsidy to prop up owners pocketbooks, so it's a start for the new regime.

Isles fans went though something similar with everyone Tavares played with . Bottom line is Drai won't get the credit he deserves until he's on a different team producing, or McD is out for months and he's top dog still
Well by that logic I guess we should start pulling every player out of the hall of fame that played on a team where he wasn't always the number one guy because they are "only a product of X" or benefitted from not always playing the toughest matchups 100% of the time...

Its not even an Oilers fan who made this thread, he's just trying to stir the pot.
I don't think there are even any Edmonton fans who think they're even a top contender from the West. Anything can happen and the Oilers have the star power to do some damage, but I think the Avs, Blues, and Vegas are better/safer bets.

As a Flames fan who has watched the Oilers draft ahead of the Flames for basically a decade...
For frigs sake, stop squandering talent, go on a tear and let the Flames draft some proper talent ahead of you in the early rounds. Bolster both rosters so both are legit contenders and make the league fear the death valley trip again and salivate at a good show every BOA!

If he gets the Hart/Lindsay (he will most likely) to combine with his Art Ross, that'll be a HOF resume. Think of current U25 guys and who is the best of this generation and there is little argument that Draisaitl is a top 3 talent. He's only 24, he has more time to improve his resume, at the same age Malkin had an Art Ross and Conn Smythe.
Realistically he's probably getting in. We've recently had threads about Getzlaf, Weber, Marchand, Fleury and other guys getting into the hall who were never top 5, let alone #1 in league. They're very good but they all have 0 individual hardware and in my opinion don't belong there but every thread there are people saying they will get in.
It also unfortunately seems that the Hall of Fame's standards are being lowered.
