So.. Edmonton has to be the favorites coming out of the west, right?

Edmonton will be outed by the Hawks in the first round, they were cooling off at the end and the long break will have a negative benefit.

Oilers rely too much on their special teams to make it deep. They don't call penalties in the playoffs like they do in the regular season.

Is that why almost every team in last year's playoffs saw more PPTOI/GP in the playoffs than the regular season?

We don't get PP opportunities anyway, 20th in the NHL. And last year they called more penalties, not less.

Crawford is going to be a big deciding factor.

Post Jan 1:

Edmonton:

4th in EV GF (100)
11th in EV GA (82)

5v5 GA were a saw off, 60 each in the same amount of games post Jan 1
Season as a whole, Chicago had an advantage, allowing 11 less, but I do find it interesting that Edmonton tightened up a great deal post Jan 1.

5v5 GF saw a slight advantage to Chicago, 69 to 67 post Jan 1
Season as a whole, Chicago with a slightly larger advantage, 147 to 142, but Edmonton played one less game

So if I had to break it down, here's how I'd have the series

5v5 offense: slight advantage Chicago
5v5 defense: Even (and both mediocre)
Faceoffs: slight advantage Chicago though neither team is very good
PP: Advantage Edmonton
PK: Advantage Edmonton
Goaltending: If they don't have Crawford, huge advantage EDM. If they do have Crawford, advantage Chicago.

X factor will be scoring first. Edmonton had the 2nd most wins in the NHL when scoring first. If they can jump on the Hawks early they'll do well.

Prediction without Crawford: 3-1 EDM
Prediction with Crawford: 3-2 EDM

People conflict the threshold for penalties getting higher with less penalties being called, while it just means that players commit more fauls.

I thought the Oilers had no depth? Judging off the opinions of Oilers fans in this thread, they have the most depth in the league.

Oilers logic: Draisaitl should win the Hart because we have no depth

More Oilers logic: We are gonna win the cup because we are the most stacked team in the league and we have an incredible amount of depth

At this point the franchise is only becoming a bigger parody of themselves

Give me one example of an Oilers fan saying either of those things.

this post and the one about the Ted Lindsay finalists. The one in the Ted Lindsay post is arguing that because the Oilers have no depth, Draisaitl should win and there are multiple posts inside this thread where people are listing off the forward depth that the Oilers have including one in particular comparing the 3rd and 4th lines of the oilers and blues.

?

You didn't give me an example of either of your statements. You were talking about the Hart. The Ted Lindsay goes to the best player. Oilers fans think Draisaitl should win it because we think he was the best player this year...

I'm sorry, but if there's anyone who's 'becoming a parody of themselves' it's you.

Oh perfect, well then perhaps you can give me a reason for why he was the best player.

Oiler’s favourites?
Colorado, St. Louis, Vegas, Dallas ... I could see picking one of these teams, but the Oilers are still building their team, especially on D. Love McDavid and Draisatl when they are attacking with the puck (best in the league) but not so much when they have to play without it.

But I thought Draisaitl was a product of McDavid, and now RNH and Yamamoto are products of Draisaitl, so are they products of McDavid also?
Draisaitl definitely proved he was better than people thought this year. There's also no doubt that having pp time with McDavid and having McDavid take many of the tough matchups helped his numbers though.

Since being moved to his own line on december 31st, which was Yamamoto's first game up.

Heres the breakdowns of their quality of competition.

Connor McDavid
Elite 142.45 minutes 37.6% 9GF 5GA
Middle 104.57 minutes 27.6% 3GF 7GA
Gritensity 132.23 minutes 34.9% 9GF 8GA

Leon Draisaitl
Elite 181.37 minutes 36.3% 9GF 4GA
Middle 149.65 minutes 29.9% 7GF 4GA
Gritensity 169 minutes 33.8% 16GF 10GA

Their usage was pretty even.
