So.. Edmonton has to be the favorites coming out of the west, right?

I was at a bar this evening , so many people in Edmonton think they are Stanley Cup contenders now...one guy even said Yamomoto was better than Gudreau.
I think the fact Oiler fans are using Neal and Yamamatoe injuries as excuses to why they lost the last few games says alot about their roster.

If you're that worried about a couple 3rd and 4th line depth guys being out, maybe your team isn't really that good?

I mean Flames have been playing without Gio and Hamonic, Canucks without Boeser and Markstrom, Vegas without Stone. I think these 3 teams would have been begging to have some spare parts injured over their core players...

Yamamoto is a point per game player. Oilers also didn’t have McDavid for a while, also have Klefbom and several other key starters out. Team has been decimated the past few weeks no two ways about it.

He has played 21 games, hard to call someone a point per game player when they went on a hot streak led by a top 5 player in the NHL.

Klefbom is a decent second pairing dman.

Oilers have been extremely fortunate their injuries have been so minor, minus the McDavid one where they won the majority of games anyways.

Says the fan of a team with less than half the man games lost that the Oilers have and is still behind in the standings.

How many games did key players miss for the oilers is what I would be curious to see. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all quality over quantity, but missing a guy like Neal isn’t very detrimental is it?

Neal is pretty important on the PP, without him Chiasson gets that spot so pretty important there.
Klefbom
McD
Yammo
Kassian(suspension)
All of these guys are major contributors.
Winnepeg has had by far the worst injury luck this year so far. Unreal how they have kept it going.

You clearly have not watched the games with Yammimoto. He has earned every point he has made, in fact the argument could be made that he makes that line with his forechecking.
Matt Benning has been in an out of the line up along with Kris Russell, those two formed a terrific bottom pair and were a huge part of our PK, without them rookies have been forced onto special teams.
Klefbom is a decent 2nd pair, I do not disagree there but on the Oilers he was a top pair guy who ate a lot of minutes. He was to the Oilers what Giordano was to the Flames.
James Neal is really good in front of the net on the PP. Without him Chiasson gets that spot and he is not nearly as good.
RNH had a wrist injury at the start of the year, played through it for the most part and finally shut down to get it fixed, since he returned healthy he has been on fire
McDavid, don't really need to say anymore
Adam Larsson was out at the start of the year and he is a major part of the Oilers top 4, rookies had to fill in for that stretch.

Yeah looks like a minor list.

Thats fair and I’m sure it’s frustrating for you guys but luckily most of them aren't long term absences.

I actually look at injuries almost as positives(kind of, of course you want a healthy roster).
For example McDavid going down made others step up(the Drai line for example), or Klefbom being out is giving the coach the chance to play trial and error on the PP(Bear might be the new guy on there).
Injuries suck but there is a positive there.

He's also not stating his team is the favorite like the person that started this thread is.

Yeah, I would not say the Oilers are the favorite to come out of the West, although I do think it is fairly wide open. St Louis and Vegas are going to be very tough in a 7 games series, I think one of those two go through.

Nice for you guys to finally come around. 2 months ago he was a 2nd line center at best.

Don't lie, this never happened. You don't leave your parent's basement.

In all fairness Yamamoto will most likely never be the player that Gaudreau is but he looks to be an excellent complimentary piece. I think if you compare both players at the age of 21 then they had similar potential but Gaudreau was a driver for the Flames from his rookie season until now.

Flames fans underestimating Yamamoto.

Color me surprised.
I don't think any Flames fans are underestimating Yamamoto. With a 21 game sample this season the sample size is just too small to have a definitive opinion on the player. Yes.. he's playing great so far... but you could say the same about Neal at the end of October. Players go on hot streaks. Mikael Backlund has scored 18 pts in his last 11 games. He won't sustain that. That could also very well be true for Yamamoto.

Yamamoto has been a MUCH, MUCH better player then Gaudreau has been this year. Gaudreau vanishes when hits are thrown and is quite possibly the worst playoff player in the NHL. Yams is the type of players who step up in the playoffs, Gaudreau is the opposite. Would not be shocked if he already asked for a trade quietly, he obviously does not want to be there.

Great Jinx thread, I would say Oilers will not even make the playoffs. But the Flames are even worse, that franchise is going no where.
