So basically Chris Kreider is Tony Amonte

For your next thread, you can compare J.T. Miller and Brad Pitt. That would also be fun.

I realze this is all a form of fun, but when you make an analogy between players, they should at least vaguely resemble each other in skill set.

Then you made a series of inaccurate assertions.

I just found it puzzling and that was the fun part to me. Maybe it seemed obnoxious and maybe it was, but why not start a fun discussion that is somewhat realistic, instead?

In short, Amonte in no way resembles Kreider in hockey style.
 
Guys like Gartner and Bure were gone at the blink of an eye. A guy like Kreider is more like Messier or Roenick where they have powerful long strides and dont hit top speed instantly.
 
I really don't care who he looks like, reminds people of, who his girl friend or boy friend is or any of this stuff.

What he clearly looks like to me is the kind of impact player one rarely if ever sees in a Rangers uniform....which is probably why he ends up else where.

I'd love to see the Rangers extend his contract long term.

Kreider is 4 years away from group III. He will be a group II with arb rights this summer. If Gorton becomes GM,does he share Sather's 2nd contract philosophy? 2 year bridge contract and then a long-term deal is the usual Rangers way.

Or Marc Staal, but they are the exception to the rule. McDonagh was at least arbitration eligible, so we had extra incentive to give him a long term deal. I'm sure he could have gotten 4+ in arbitration. Better to lock him up long term.

I would love it if we could lock up Kreider long term. Give him 6 years @ 3.5 per year. We can easily afford it now, especially if we trade Cally and/or Girardi, and it will be a huge bargain down the road.
 
I've always found a certain similarity between Amonte and Kreider.

With that said, I think Kreider's game is evolving into something different. If he can play with an edge, possibly develop into a 30 goal, 60 point kind of player and do it in a 6'3, 235 pound frame, he's going to be a very valuable player. Maybe not a centerpiece player, but a solid contributor.

I've been comparing these two for years, very similar paths to where they are now.
 
Gartner was one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history.
You knew you were getting at least 30 every year. Kreider is nothing like Gartner.

Besides place of birth and being home grown
I fail to see the Amonte comparison as well.

At the end of the day I think he'll end up putting numbers up
Between Darren Turcotte and say Billy Guerin
 
Question:

I haven't been home in weeks/updated rosters for NHL 14. What's Kreider's current rating?

Tonight will be the first night at my place and sans girlfriend since Xmas... gonna get in some much needed NHL 14 time.

this team has a ways to go until a guy like kreider can break 40. if he was with pitts and they had room for him on the first line, i'd say he could break 40 this year. spot on the 2nd line? 30+.

Yeah a 60 point, 30 goal power forward is a top line player in todays NHL. What I like is that he has good vision with his passing as well though, I never really expected that out of him. In fact, sometimes I think he passes too much...

But he might have to learn how to fight a little bit if he keeps throwing his weight around. I don't see him intentionally throwing borderline hits or anything but guys in the NHL get awfully pissed off if you keep crushing them into the boards. I don't want him getting serious about fighting, but just enough to protect himself when someone comes after him.

I feel like some people are perpetually stuck in a time warp and dont realize how few NHL'ers score 40 in a season anymore
 
Saw Marleau several times a season when he first arrived. Some parallels there...

Can't suspend Kreider with an NBC game coming up.

If Kreider ever lands a solid punch in a fight he'll maybe become about the last guy somebody would want to fight.

I know you'd like to think of him as a super human, but a real heavyweight wouldn't be very much afraid of him. Kreider is not into fighting, and he doesn't know much about it. He even declined a challenge from Dubinsky last night.
 
This is not totally related but I thought big guy project type, though a better prospect. Not saying they're anything alike but was Joe Thornton supposed to be a great playmaker when he was drafted? Kreider will never be an elite playmaker IMO, but I was wondering if it's possible that he would become an excellent playmaker. He's already very good in the area surprisingly.
 
I don't remember who said it, but Kreider is a good technical passer. He can get the puck to his open teammates, he wont thread the needle like Thornton or Crosby, but he'll get you the puck.

Thornton made the NHL as an 18 year old and was drafted 1st overall, not much of a project.

Yeah I like Kreider's passing.

Also, another thing I've noticed with him is that when he's on the cycle and is on the half wall, he'd rather pass it to a pointman for a shot than throw the puck back blindly back behind the net where his linemates won't get it. Too many of our forwards choose to throw the puck right back to the other D.

It took two or three years for Thornton to start putting up quality numbers, and it took almost a decade in the league (after the trade to SJ) to fully live up to his potential.

He was never a bust, but his track to the player he is now was slow and gradual.
