I love this post because it's 1000% accurate. Majority of posters around here have a 'flare for the dramatics.'

There was one guy not too long ago that that felt Kopitar should be banished to the press box where he could spend that time dwelling on how he's robbing the team on 11-mil dollars.
This board isn't one guy. Most would say he could use a reduced role as he's being utilized like he's still 28 when he's not. Obviously you're bound to get people who are hyperbolic, but that doesn't invalidate the crux of the entire argument as you seem to think it does.

No, he was serious -- banished to the press box.

But if you're supposed to take the next step this season, supposed to make the playoffs, is your 1C supposed to be fine? Or is he supposed to be great? Kopi is my favorite player, but he's not 1C caliber anymore and that's fine to admit.

Fine is fine....we weren't supposed to make the playoffs last year.....we did, does that mean Kopitar was great?

No, we were calling this out last year too down the stretch, as he was fading, and got completely wrecked in the playoffs while Danault thrived.

But that's not what the guy said, he said if we are expecting to make the playoffs, do you want your 1C to be fine......well, he was fine last year, and we made the playoffs....so does that mean he thought he was great?

BTW, you know what they say about statistics...right?

Disagree.....you HAVE to put players out there......unless you are saying that the only player on the ice that could EVER make a mistake, is Durzi......and that's clearly not what you are saying....
It’s situational though, isn’t it. I agree the pass had nothing to do with him playing left or right but he had two other options in a key situation. Durzi is the least reliable in those key moments so that is a coaching call. All I’m saying is that TM has some accountability simply because he put Durzi out there. We can debate if it’s 95/5, 50/50 or 5/95 ... but he has some accountability. As he does if a player scores, he gets some credit for choosing which line is on the ice… the matchup etc.

I wonder where Kopi ranks against 1st line centers league wide - regular and advanced stats.. I dont wonder enough to look it up :)

I mean you can ignore them if you want but the eye test isn't acquitting him, that's my point. He looks every bit those results and has since about the beginning of the calendar year.

That effort in OT behind the net was the most pathetic thing I've seen in his entire career.

Again, not sure what eye test you are referring to......because as I said, he's been fine, he was fine last year, he's fine this year....the problem is, you mopes want to try and compare him to MacKinnon or McDavid, or Kopitar from 10 years ago....and you pull out the..."you want him to play less mantra" because your "eye" test, and general knowledge of the game comes from beer league and minor hockey experience.....

Again, no one is saying he's the same player 10 years ago, but f*** sake, he's not this decrepit 3rd line C everyone wants him to be because he's not a shiny new toy......

And if your first leg of stats is showing that Lemieux is the better player.......the rest of your stats are just brutal....

All the evidence is kicking you in the face, I can't help you with that. You don't need to be a hockey savant to criticize Kopitar's OT checking effort the other night.

And no, that's not what it's saying at all. Lemieux is doing excellent in his role, just like Kopitar is not as a 1C--he's losing his matchups night after night while the other 3 lines win theirs more often than not.

He's not decrepit, and us mopes aren't comparing him to MacKinnon or McDavid or other great 1Cs--TM implicitly is with his playing time and matchups. That is exactly the problem.

Actually Kopitar himself compares him to McDavid and McKinnon by requesting $10 mill.
I judge him on this and nothing else.

In general he is not "fine" if the desired result is being a 1C, not to mention how far you get into playoff with a "fine" 1C

Funny you mention this

At even strength, Kopitar was on the rink for 4 goals for and 10 against, a 28.57% GF%.
Danault was on for 8 for, 2 against, 80% GF%.

They both faced roughly equal doses of McDavid and Draisaitl.

This is why it's mind boggling that TM won't address the first concern.

Yeah no idea what's in his mind.
I guess this is what you get when you hire someone with a loser pedigree.
At least he is well known for building the "Choking Artists" which is a great archivement.

I hated this signing right from the beginning

For all the years I was called a homer and worse for defending him so hard you would think it means something when I'm being critical of him, I hate doing it.
Yes your handle alone gives u lots of credits. Does this mean you will be changing it? How about Raccoon Moses? still biblical and wise but appropriately aged

This is an embarrassingly bad take/post. For so many reasons that it’s not worth bothering. I’d almost think you are joking - if I didn’t know for sure already that you are serious.

May i ask what's so bad/embarrassing to expect $10 mill performance after a player asks for $10 mill ?

It's crap!

Why don't they just call it " the top 2 centers who put up the most points, forget all the other important stuff"
They are using some fancy stats that account for a lot more than scoring (GSVA)... but I did look where Kopi ranked on yahoo fantasy sorted by centers - he was 45th overall.

Reality of pro-sports shows that very few highly paid players would be considered worth the money in the closing years of their contracts. We've went through all this before...like the previous poster said, your take is horrible, ridiculous with a big splash of ignorance.
