Well, its good to know that most of you guys are more knowledgeable about hockey than Gretzky, Lowe, Quinn, Hitchcock and Martin put together.

Funny how none of you are in the business...

Exactly right, and the team has given up only 3 goals in 4 games. I know Brodeur has been great, but he does get help from his defensemen, and half of them aren't even the top guys the're the subs. Wow some these guys are hard to please.

Well, its a good thing your not choosing the team. Obviously, they knew what they were doing when they were choosing players. Youre letting your anti-Oiler bias cloud your judgement.

I think Brewer has outplayed Regher and Hannan in this tournament, if you have to choose a weakest link. But our weakest links are better than the other teams strongest links. Brewer and Regher will be staples on the national team for the next decade.

So I guess if you still dont think Brewer should have been chosen, I guess managements foresight is better than your hindsight.

Lowe's imput helped, but Brewer played himself onto Wayne Gretzky's radar at the '01 World Championships. He felt Brewer's speed and style were built for international ice. When it came down to the selection, the brass wanted a younger player. Brewer showed at the Olympics why he was named to the team with an impressive tournament. On the current World Cup squad, only Niedermayer and Foote have more international experience than Brewer does. At this age, that goes a long way. Especially when your game takes a step forward while wearing the maple leaf.

The team was adding its next group of studs on defense with Redden, Regehr, Hannan and JayBo, why would they take the risk of adding another inexperienced blueliner ahead of one who has consistently earned his time playing for team Canada?

And also, how come when Regehr gives the puck away (and yes, I've seen him do it in this tournament), no one mentions it? Get your balls off him already, Christ.

Good for you, do you want a cookie? Were those Oiler fans receiving inside info from Team Canada? Oh? No? Thought so, but nice try. :) Too bad for you your argument doesn't work mostly because Gretzky has even said he likes Brewer's style of play. Canada was trying to win the gold at the Olympics, so why on earth would Wayne let Lowe put Brewer on the team if Gretzky didn't think something of Eric in advance?

And, our forwards are back-checking, beautifully.
Our boys are playing the perfect TEAM game.
Players don't have to be perfect, because of the excellent puck-support, they know they have back-up.
And, none of them will quit on each other.
That takes a lot of negative pressure off, which helps them zone in and play, while doing their jobs.

These guys ALL deserve to be there.

btw - I like Regehr's play.
He looked a little over his head against the USA, but has been quietly, effective, since.
gotta love it.

GO CANADA GO!!!

Brewer belongs there, but sure would have liked to see Aucoin there ahead of Regehr.
 
it seems that garfield and MrMastodonFarm are the only ones having problems with brewer everyone else thinks he is doing fine and should have been there. MrMastodonFarm if the only arguement u have against me is my english then u should just admit we proved u wrong i mean honestly think about it. Does Lowe have that much of a say to bring in a mediocre defensemen when there are superstar defense such as phillips and sturat. Give me a break and u can't honestly tell me that regher has been great all he had was a great stretch i like him though and he is a very good defensemen but he has not been the same since the end of the playoffs u just have a problem against oilers players bergeron ring a bell
 
I think Smyth should be on the team, but I have to admit that Brewer as not impressed me too much. Having said that, he hasn't done anything to hurt us either.

i know u have said he has played well but u still say he shouldn't be there. i know u are just debating him being named to the team and not him performance but i think he should have been named

Gretzky admitted before the selections that they were looking at giving a young defenceman a chance on the roster for some experience. This young defenceman was going to be the 7th d-man. If they were looking to win the Olympics at all costs then Scott Stevens would have been named - but Gretzky and Lowe decided to give the #7 d-man spot to a youngster.

BTW, in 2002 both Wade Redden and Derek Morris were better than Brewer so you cant tell us that Lowe's input meant nothing.
 
Wade isn't/wasn't young like Brewer, and Brewer is a WAY better skater then Morris - a la Brewer to Salt Lake Pretty easy.
 
i don't think redden is better then brewer. Brewer is also 2 yrs younger then redden so i think that is what he was trying to say
 
Prior to the World Cup, ie. last season, Redden has been much better than Brewer, at the very least much more consistent. But, in the games before Redden was injured I would'nt go as far as to say that Redden has played much better than Brewer, albeit he has played better. Splitting hairs you say? Well, I hate to see gross exaggerations, but I'll stop now.
 
Looks like I've joined in late, but I do have a question for MrMastodonFarm:

If Lowe were to offer Brewer to the Flames, what would you be prepared to give up for him?

Well since the Flames aren't in the market for a defencemen it is hard to judge. Certainly I wouldn't give up Regehr, or Leopold.

Tough question to be honest, as (you can tell) I am not a fan of Eric Brewer.

What if Lowe were to ask for, say, Steve Reinprecht, straight up?
