WC: Slovakia 2023 Roster Talk

we need to beat Latvia just to silence Namejs, once again
Namejs was silenced many times, however, it did not shake his confidence, at all.

Anyway, before yesterday's game, I thought that the Latvians would dismantle our defense in front of the home crowd. After their yesterday's pathetic performance against Canada and Slovakia's (surprisingly) very good performance against the Czech Republic, I have more faith in our team.

Skovranek great today vs Latvia. So far great goaltending. Let's hope it continues.
Like I said numerous times already, I think he is a really good, underrated goalie. While saw him almost exclusively in the Extraliga playoffs, it's still a pretty significant sample size and numbers back him up. Hlavaj, great in a friendly game he might have been, but overall is prone to complete lapses and at the end of the day is Extraliga backup with mediocre numbers.

I feel this is pretty much the tag that follows him around since the WJC days - overall a pretty meh goalie who looks very impressive when he is at the peak of his game for those short periods of time.

I actually think Skorvanek is a good goalie who is getting severely underrated here. Sure he's a late bloomer but why does it matter now. Not too different from Franzreb who might end up being Germany's starter.

Haven't heard or read anything about Skorvanek prior to this tournament.

Is he capable of playing at a higher level?

Once again credit to Antiillafire for penciling him into the team in the OP in February already.

If by "higher level" you mean the Czech Extraliga then for sure he can, if the NHL then almost certainly he cannot.

Hlavaj awesome today vs Canada. Lots of potential.

It's interesting how before the tourney we were most worried about our D and goaltending, both of which are performing excellently. Meanwhile our forward group, while not performing badly, was expected to score more. Honestly I expected a bunch of high scoring, high flying affairs and so far vs Latvia, Czechia and Canada we played very tight, very good defensive games with exceptional goaltending.

PK today was phenomenal. Hlavaj had a great game, closed all angles perfectly and gave zero bad rebounds. I am missing more shots from the offence, too much passing to get into a good shooting lane, sometimes when you are not getting them you have to just throw puck at traffic.

Todays low: for me was Okuliar.
MVP: Hlavaj
Nemec was solid for a first game.

Oh and Hudacek had a great game until the major.

Okuliar is being beyond terrible. Seeing him in the OT was like WTF moment.:shakehead

Can't wait for the Switzerland game.

I guess we go back to Skovranek?

Swiss are out for blood this year, they brought some serious names from the NHL and so far allowed no goals.

Looking forward to Nemec breaking that streak.

Dare I say, we are missing a certain player who just recently had a masterful season. A Slovak hockey legend some might say. Olympian medalist. @Eye of Ra favorite Slovak player. Could use his right now.
While I appreciate the humor in the post, Holesinsky might be the actual missing Olympic medalist. When Dano stopped scoring, Trinec started to play well. Coincidence?
