We still are missing Chara and Visnovsky so thats 25% of our D. I think we will do allright with that defense.

We wont meet Canada until the quarters (and probably even then) and we meet CZE in the 2nd group stage.

We have had worser defensive units and have done well.

Big names dont always mean success. Also another difference is here we are playing on the big ice, which beneftis guys like Strbak.

Is Mezsároš going to play? I cant wait to see him on international level. I heard great things about him :jump:

Slovakia lines in todays training game against Sweden:

Branko Radivojevic - Miroslav Zalesak - Ladislav Nagy
Martin Strbak - Rene Vydareny

Marcel Hossa - Roman Kukumberg - Marian Gaborik
Richard Stehlik - Ivan Majesky

Lubomir Bartecko - Peter Pucher - Juraj Stefanka
Jaroslav Obsut - Richard Lintner

Jiri Bicek - Andrej Nedorost - Martin Kulha
Andrej Meszaros - Radoslav Suchy

Rastislav Stana
Jan Laco

Do you think Vydareny has a chance of playing?
When he was in the Canucks minor-league system, I remember him as a great skater with size who was very confused in his own zone.
Had a hard shot, but not too accurate.
How well did he play back home this year?

Your description is great. He had very good playoffs when his team missed some key defensemen and he got more ice time.

The 2nd period killed us I guess. They didnt show the game here so Im just going by the boxscore.

Well, it did kill the Slovak spirit. Though they didn't play very well before that either. Liv was shaky in the first and let in a very simple shot by Lintner. The other goal was a bouncy redirection thingy.

Slovakia and Denmark played an exhibition game last night in Odense, Denmark, and Denmark won 2-1. Goals for Denmark by Frans Nielsen and Kasper Degn, while Marian Gaborik scored the goal for Slovakia. I couldn't find any further stats or boxscores though.

but this makes no sense. How did the Danes manage to get 36 shots?

I didnt see the game.

Maybe they shot a lot from behind the blue line, or just dumped the puck a lot. I didnt see the game so I cant judge.

I was hoping that Meszaros would make the team again, but I suppose the depth with NHLers has forced him out.

The lineup is looking good otherwise. Which 5 do you guys see being cut, as this lineup has 28 players.

I think Vydarny, Stehlik, Obsut, Marcel Hossa and Stefanka will not going to the wc.

The main thing is that Lintner  will be at wc and Slovakia wins a medal, why not the gold medal... :D :yo:

It will depend if Strbak and Visnovsky will be fit enough to play, as they are question marks so far.

But from that list above, I would scratch:

Stehlik, Vydareny, Marcel Hossa, Juraj Stefanka and Radivojevic.

But dont forget, the team may add additional 2 players later on in the tournament so only 3 players from this list wont go and I guess those 3 will be Vydareny, Stehlik and Stefanka/Marcel Hossa.

But it ALL depends on the health of Strbak and Visnovsky.
