Slafkovsky heating up

Laf doesn’t suck but he’s still a massive disappointment. He was the clear #1OA and was felt to be a generational talent by some.

For comparison’s sake, Laf is 22 years old and has 31 points with a team second worst -9 while playing with Panarin. Yes, he’s played better this year but he’s no more than a middle six guy.

Meanwhile Slaf has way less NHL experience. He’s 19 years old and has 29 points and is a -11 playing with far lesser talent.
For someone who saw Laf live 3x this year, I can tell you that he is very good regardless of the points. He’s very dynamic in the offensive zone, has an excellent vision and a very underrated shot.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him put up 85-90 points if given the chance to be on PP1. I would not hesitate to pay a high price to bring him in Montreal.

Lafreniere is on pace for 49 points. Do people think with first unit pp time he's gonna put up 85-90 points?

It'll be his best season. He's trending upward, but I don't see 40 pp points to make up that difference.

Weren't "Habs fans" dragging him and the pick through the mud up until recently? I can't keep up with what they are griping about every draft, it's always something with them.
Fair to say there are fans of every team that are irrational an impatient. I, for one, was prepared to be patient and not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Dude he's on pace for 49 points, I highly doubt PP1 time would net him an extra 35-40 points

Call me when the Sharks first round pick gets as much attention, pomp and circumstance and somehow vitriol as Slaf, Kotkaniemi and to a certain degree Caufield.

I'd wager the % of fans off their rockers is pretty similar. Then there's the ones online that pretend to be fans of teams cause they like attention and stirring the pot.

Were their habs fans that wanted the team to pick Wright? Sure. And I've seen a few eating crow this year. Especially with Wright in the AHL.

Most actual fans have been more pissed and vocal about player development than the players selected.

Were our fans really that upset that we didn’t take Shane Wright? He wasn’t even the first center taken in the draft. We knew in the build up to the draft that red flags were starting to collect with him. I’ve seen more arguments for Montreal not taking a position of need with 1 center(Cooley) and 2 RHD(Nemec, Jiricek) available then I have for passing on Wright. Seems those people are the minority. The winger has to really make it worth passing over C or RHD prospects when it’s close because they are in high demand and harder to find. Right now, Slafkovsky is really doing his best to show he was the right choice.

I think he could be in a year or two max.

I think it would. He’s got it in him

Hard to paint everyone with the same brush. There were lots of fans unhappy, and there were lots of fans also just preached patience.

But I think this thread specifically is in response to the thread here that suggested he's the worst #1 pick of all time.

So now you got your ying and your yang.

That would place him among the league leaders for power play points, I don't think his offensive output would double even if he was the go-to guy on the power play.

McDavid for example scored 123 points in 2022, 44 via power play.

This thread has our up to date feelings on him. You can just read the last 2 pages and be caught up.

I thought the Habs were going to pick Wright. When they passed on him and 2 other teams did as well, I figured there was something about that kid that the teams didn't like and didn't waste any time whining about it. Same thing with MM last summer. Thought they were for sure going to grab him but when they passed on him I moved past it.

Do people actually speak like this?
Only on the internet

He still has room to grow at ES as well. He just turned 22..

Who knew an 18 year old big dude would take longer to develop in the NHL I thought he was a finished prospect never knew he could improve

I don't know if "upset" is the right word but I think most fans thought that Wright would be first overall, and it trended that way for most of the year. Slaf got on the radar with a late push and felt like the more ballsy pick at the time.

I think fans were genuinely surprised, and kind of took the approach that you better be right (pardon the pun).
