I think much like the Leafs losing JvR and Bozak, that this trade could be addition by subtraction. Canes will get better as a unit, albiet with less flash.

Except for the part where the Leafs simultaneously added better players at every position than the Canes have managed to find, I agree that this is likely to magically make the Canes better by making them worse.

Montreal’s GM said the offers for Pacioretty were weak. Could just be the market combined with the Canes being actively interested in moving Skinner off the roster.

Waddell could turn around and flip assets for Panarin or Pacioretty. Capitalize on the same poor market while upgrading the player.

love this trade.

i would have been happy just waiving the puke.

His effort level last season was one of the most ridiculous displays I've ever seen.

you really think we should have got a first for a guy with concussion issues who was -27 playing against 3rd liners last year?

we save 5 million and we get better by subtraction

I think we all recognized the huge glaring holes in Skinner's game, and somehow hoped none of the GM's wouldn't notice.

He doesn't play winning hockey. There's no other way of saying it.

Was still hoping they'd get more for him, but I wouldn't have given more for him. And I think the Canes are better off without him.

Why not just hold onto Skinner and Faulk and shoot for the playoffs?

And if it isn't going to well trade them off at the deadline? Seems useless to trade a 30 goal scorer for no one that will help your roster right now.

Obviously the return won't be as nice letting them go at the deadline but it's not like the package you got today was all that.

I really hope so. Put whatever futures are needed with Faulk to get a top 6 forward.

Nothing about this makes sense for a team desperate to get back to the playoffs this season. The pieces that were traded for are not worth the reduced chance we now have of making the playoffs this year.

Hes complete dogshit in his own zone, questionable work ethic, doesnt make players around him better, not a leader

think getting rid of him improves our odds

Ugh, despise this trade at least from a timing standpoint. If you can't get a better return then a B+ prospect, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th right now then it's better to have him on the team for the regular season. IMHO a playoff run is FAR more important than this kind of return. Have to hope we're packaging Faulk with some other assets for an upgrade at this point.
