Some people don’t seem to be aware that Nashville now has 3 1st and 2 2nd and a couple valuable prospects on top of it. Nashville is in a unique situation where they have a playoff team but the only teams in the league that could have a realistic chance to outbid them in trades this year are all rebuilding teams.

They basically will walk into the season/trade deadline with first dibs to acquire whatever players become available. Their roster as currently constructed will probably be vastly improved come post-deadline. Adding the guys they added in FA was just step #1.
We don't really have the cap for that, it's very likely we just draft 1-5 times in the first two rounds or see how far we can get/best ELC player we can grab.

Had a below average regular season and was the worst goalie in a playoff series that included Casey DeSmith and Arthur Silovs. He's already on the down swing

Swayman was Boston's starter first off and what are you talking about the Markstrom deal? The Flames did fine in that trade. A signed Saros could've gotten them Necas from Carolina or someone even better
Askarov lost his spot to a journeyman goalie in the playoffs

That sounds good too.

This upcoming draft is supposed to be a good one, refill the prospect pool and these kids should be ready to take over fully when this group ages out.

Also, wasn’t Trotz trying to move up aggressively the last 2 drafts? This draft might be the one he succeed if he’s willing to bundle up all those picks + prospects.

Either way it’s a formula for sustainable success.

That’s the part people fail to understand when they complain the Preds overspent on aging UFAs and it’s gonna just blow in their face.

There aren’t many clubs with a better or more balanced “now” roster and a system loaded with good prospects at multiple levels (from basically NHL-ready to newly drafted) and also now loaded with picks.

I wasn’t sure what “path” the Preds would pick this summer. They pretty much just said…why not all of them?

This is impressive management from Trotz and co. Even this Askarov situation was handled very calmly.

Let's not forget Saros was still 1st in shots against and saves even in a down year.

Lovely for the Sharks as well. With Dickinson and now Askarov in the fold, they’ve really buttressed their enviable youth core with blue chip pieces at each level. I still think they lack perhaps that “centerpiece” blueliner but they are stacking good pieces on defense at least now (Shak looks good and buy that Pohlkamp stock now while it’s cheap)…and say what you will about how Askarov got his trade…kid is a phenomenal talent in goal. If they can grab a Matty Schaefer in the 2025 draft, it’ll be time to go all in on those Sharks futures bets.

Askarov steps in and they get a 60-65 point young forward with wing/center flexibility? Lmao what?
They should have given Askarov more games if the plan was to trade saros. You could argue he didn't earn it but bottom line He's played 3 games. That's not enough to hinge your bets on him especially with Preds trying to win now.

Last time I ever saw a top team trade their starter for a rookie was with Price in 2007-2008 when Habs traded Huet at TDL. And even then price already played 30+ games

Kid is going to see a lot of rubber on the Sharks. Be interesting to see how he handles it. He played hard ball, got what he wanted and now its time to shut up and prove you were worth it.

Very heavy investment in Askarov all around from SJ (trade and salary). Don’t recall the last time a goalie with almost no NHL experience received this much in a trade or a contract above league minimum.

Can’t believe some posters are shitting on Grier as recently as a few days ago, saying he’s “in over his head” and “has no clue what he’s doing”. The Sharks rebuild is coming along very nicely, it just took some time to get things balanced.

Once again, HF posters have shown they have no foresight or critical thinking skills. Grier clearly had a vision for how things are going to go. The team is going to be a powerhouse in just a couple years.

More like 3 or 4 years.
