Speculation: 2024-25 Roster thread

Have any of you considered that maybe, just maybe, all the pain, hard work, tough love and discipline are beginning to pay off? That the players know the expectations and have accepted them and are executing? It's my understanding that Cronin was brought in to teach hard work and discipline; this is only 6 games now of truly elevated play and it's not yet perfect by any means. Still, EVERYBODY has elevated their play and if it keeps up, I'd think it fair to say that Cronin has done his job well.
So... which is more likely? It was a player problem and things have coincidentally clicked for everyone on the roster at once (coincidentally at the same time we know that the system was changed), or it was a coaching problem and the change to the system the whole team is playing has elevated play for the whole team at once?

I'm not willing to extend the guy who came up with last night's OT lines any benefit of the doubt about having a great plan born from understanding his roster. Not given the rest of his body of work with this team.

I mean you call the flyers a shit team, but last year weren’t they fighting for the playoffs up until the final 1-2 weeks of the season ? Which is where we can only “hope” to be at this season. And they are currently playing 1 pt out of the playoffs. I wouldn’t necessarily call them a shit team, although I don’t really follow or watch them. Maybe they are awful and just winning in unsustainable ways.

They're in the bottom third of the NHL, but maybe "shit team" is a bit of an exaggeration. They're just bad.

I have zero problems with Leo, I just think he could be playing better than he is and don’t have low expectations for him.

My expectations are also high for Leo. It's absolute magic what he can do when he's "on".

He's second on the team in scoring and has four game-winning goals in 19 games. You're inventing a problem that just doesn't exist.

Leo has a consistency problem, which I'm sure he will sort out. But being second on this Ducks team in points is not exactly something to be proud of, our current points leader (Terry) is only on pace for 63. Terry is 133rd in the NHL.

Terry is only on pace for 52 points. This is why I’m concerned for the entire team and not just one or two players.

52!? Did he miss games and I effed up the math?? Either way, you're spot on.

Yeah dude. Ducks top producer is on pace for like low 50 points. Not good. This is why I put more blame on the coaching and system. Don’t get me wrong , I think a lot of players need to step up, like some of the kids, but I just can’t put all the blame on them.

They rarely have multi-point games. Need to put up those 2 or 3 point games. There are a lot of teams out there that bleed goals. They are not taken advantage of them as much as they should.

I appreciate that they have looked Dangerous at times, hit the posts, and their expected goals is high but they need to start finding the back of the net more.

50 point pace for our highest scoring forward is... f***

Edit: I also just figured out what I did, for some reason I was figuring his point projection for a 100 game season.. Don't ask. lol

Do you really want to watch 100 games of this current team? There is not enough alcohol in the world for that. Lol.

In his second year in the league, playing on a MUCH better team, Corey Perry had 44 points. He eventually won a Hart Trophy. Can we shift our focus to the REAL problems with this team?

You went back in history about two decades ago to pull up stats when I shared what Zegras produced a few years ago? Talk about "shifting focus" due to copium, right? That "shifting focus" went plaid and overshot its mark. And why bring up the question of "REAL problems" when you don't even address it? Do you even know??? I know and shared it: "I blame coaching and roster makeup (GM)".

I denoted how bad our offense was last season, but the masses on this board just kept saying "injuries" while also dispelling the "injuries" under Eakins were nothing burgers. Zegras went from 60+ player to being oft injured and into a void. 2021-22 Z had a 0.81 ppg rate (Eakins and Z's first, full rookie season); 2022-23 Z had a 0.80 ppg rate (Eakins); 2023-24 Z had a 0,48 ppg rate (Cronin); currently in 2024-25, Z is maintaining a 0.31 ppg rate (Cronin).

We are early in year 2 and are witnessing the same offensive problem, but now more people are acknowledging the lack of offense under Cronin since the injuries excuse doesn't exist.

Do you even know the "REAL problems" are? Feel free to share since you disagree with me blaming the "coaching and roster makeup (GM)".

I think it’s important to appreciate the nuance between not being super thrilled with the level of play from certain guys this season and questioning how good somebody will ultimately be. At least for me, it’s two totally separate things. Like if somebody thinks a guy can play better, it doesn’t mean they are questioning the player’s long-run outlook.

Is someone healthy, or are they just minimizing his time on the roster for waivers purposes?

According to PuckPedia, we have 12 forwards available on our forward roster that had both Fabbri and Mac on IR. McGinn hasn't been put on IR and still counts as a forward spot. Even if Mac returns, we still have one roster spot open. Probably a paper transaction since we fly out to Seattle on the 27th, especially if I think McGinn might go on IR.
