So Edmonton seemingly have solved their cap issues for this year and are probably matching Broberg. Still going to make next summer interesting for them though with massive raises coming for Bouchard and Draisaitl on top of needing to fill out the rest of their roster with quality depth. Chose to kick the can down the road.

Looks like with the Ceci and Podkolzin trades, the Oilers will match Broberg and take the 3rd rounder for Holloway. That's somewhat of a frustrating outcome for St. Louis considering that their big need was a young defenseman, but Holloway isn't a bad player by any means. It just means that St. Louis will have to solve their defensive issues with the old-school draft-and-develop methods.

So Ceci, Holloway, a 3rd and a 4th for Podkolzin, Emberson and a 3rd?

I mean, in a vacuum that’s not great but considering where last week started, that’s a good result for Edmonton.
I think the math means that the Oilers are signing Holloway and Broberg. Ceci’s salary gone and Kane’s LTIR means they make cap for the start of the season.

Holloway for a third is still really good valve, although contrary to what some may think, the idea that he is going to walk into a bigger role in St. Louis by just showing up is completely false. But yeah, the bigger fish and bigger hole to plug was that LHD spot with Broberg.

Seems like Edmonton may be able to match both now though too…guess we will see.

Either way…the Blues gave us an interesting week and didn’t lose anything other than maybe pissing off Stan Bowman…which may be an overall win.

The question is if you like him more than the players you might lose because of this.
They can buy him out next offseason if he sucks, 780k for 2 years. Unless there's some rule against it, but I only see matching team cannot trade player for 1 year.

Second time Emberson was moved as a body in a salary dump.

At least the Oilers got a body though.

lol @ people think the Oilers would need to attach a pick to Ceci

good cap dump deal...got a player who played in the NHL last year plus room to to re-sign Broberg

I mean... They still had to attach a pick. Just not one anywhere near a 1st.

And before we get cute with the replies, no the pick was not for Emberson lmao.

Then why trade for Podkolzin if they match on Holloway? They have enough forwards, even with Kane on LTIR.

People need to realize SJ will likely get a 2nd rounder for Ceci at the trade deadline. Big, right shot, experienced defenceman is something many contenders want to add in February-March.

No more Nurse-Ceci in the playoffs. How sad.

Did you make a typo and mean 'negative' because lol.
? Lot of Oilers fans thought Ceci would return an asset outright. Turns out they had to attach a 3rd round pick to move him.

Emberson seems like a generic bottom pairing defenseman. Guessing Grier sold high, like he did on Okhotiuk
