For what is worth the smoke in Detroit was that he was traded because he was a poor locker room presence; Larkin essentially all but called him out directly in the offseason. Not saying that’s what’s happening here but it certainly is fair to ask the question given he’s being scratched despite playing well

He’s seriously healthy scratched tonight?

That’s hysterical considering this thread. Up’s the drama x2.

I think he’s a talented guy that isn’t strong defensively. I think Yzerman made the best trade on the table and did it because he felt he had youth coming he wanted to make room for. SJ needed some vets to make the team a little better for both the fans and their new stud. Everyone got what they thought they wanted/needed and I doubt either side regretted the trade till maybe SJ today. If he’s healthy scratched because of play I don’t think anyone can clown Yzerman about this trade at all. I hope he gets back in and continues to help SJ at least offensively.
He is playing on SAN JOSE and has a better expected goal share than any dman on your team while leading SJS to an actually functional PK (something Detroit is lacking).

Chiarot Gustafsson and Holl have been disasters in Detroit this year.

Chances are it stems from a pretty tough hit he took from Boeser last game.

The coach said it wasn't related to that hit. Lalonde had vague/weird things to say last year when he came back from injury also, in that Walman wasn't still hurt, but wasn't "himself", whatever that meant.

Once again you speak of things you know nothing about. Holl for example has played very well this season.

I just love how you only look at stats and then believe you know more that the fans of the teams that actually watches the games.

Walman is winning his 5v5 minutes on the sharks lmao, both in terms of expected goals and actual goals, the sharks are OUTPRODUCING Their opponents with walman on the ice.

For context, not a single detroit dman is above 50%

Also has helped the Sharks PK to an impressive 81.5%.

Do you even watch games or just study stat sheets all the time? Honest question.

Detroit fans clearly don't/didn't like him, for the most part, but he's looked pretty solid, and especially considering San Jose got a free 2nd round pick with him, it's hard for Shark fans to complain.

Most Wings fans did like him. There was something up with him though as he was sat even when healthy down the stretch at times. The trade was awful and will be even if Walman ends up a healthy scratch the rest of the season. But we'll have to see if anything happens again with the healthy scratching.

I also hope this thread dies soon, but the scratch is probably related to this. Some speculation that Walman hides injuries -- before he made two big mistakes last game, he got hit hard by Boeser as you referenced... Coach says the hit has nothing to do with the scratch, but Walman says yes the hit had something to do with the scratch, "If it weren't for that hit we wouldn't be having this conversation." Perhaps then, it was putting himself before the team and playing hurt, which led to bad plays later in the game.

Hodge, however, is just being a troll. He's an enigma. Sometimes he adds a ton of value as a poster, other times he bumps this thread and cherrypicks arguments to try to start and continue shit fights. Who knows what's going on over there, I always hope we see more of the good version of him and less of the bad one.

Yes if those 'mistakes' were legit justification for being a healthy scratch then you'd see a regular rotation of dmen in and out of the line up in literally every game.

If the cap space wasn’t fully used then Detroit should have just bought him out vs send a second out the door with him.

Approximately $1.1 mill in dead cap to have bought him out for 4 seasons.

Actually the opinion was split on him. Some liked him, some didn't.
Personally I like him, but he has his limits and one has to understand those and find the right fit, but he is also a stop gap in many ways and its possible to do better.

He play top line in San Jose as they got no one else, its not sustainable numbers, but credit he has done well so far. That being said, they don't need him to be a top top player, they just need him to play fairly stable minutes to develop the youth and make sure they got something to work with parts of every game.

Why is it every time I hear about "the stats don't show how good he's played" it's ALWAYS just a guy with a PDO of like 115. Because all these "eye test" fans get so easily fooled by goaltending behind them and shooting luck in front of them. And every one of them is convinced that their player is somehow the exception to statistics

Holl is getting 0.956 goaltending behind him and a 15% on ice shooting EV.

He's getting caved in out there.

Decent player, wasn't working out in Detroit.. got moved with term so attached asset... chance to thrive and grow in San Jose, locker room issues in Detroit so he wasn't sticking around (like Vrana, Mantha, Bertuzzi to varrying degrees) I don't get why this thread continues to discuss this like it was a make or break moment for Detroit or Yzerman, or that he was some long tenured guy we got robbed of and had to ship out.
