He was playing on the top pair of a team trying to make the playoffs, while getting historically hard deployment. Lalonde definitely valued him as one

Good job ignoring all arguments and facts and just going back to blanket statements again.

The fact is Walman and Seider were the Wings top pair for 1/4th of 2022-2023 and 3/4th 2023-2024 seasons. The Wings, an aspiring playoff team were using Walman in the top pair. Nobody knows what happened after he got injured, just rumours and speculation. Yzerman didn't even shop him around, as many insiders reported. He gave the Sharks at worst at middle pairing dman on a good contract and attached a 2nd. Any other name than Yzerman and he's getting raked over the coals for that trade

Add it to the list of head scratching moves from Yzerman

They extend Walman to an affordable deal, proceed to give him (and Seider) historically tough minutes, Walman "fails" at those minutes and is given up on

The hf excuse for this one seems to be that he was a locker room cancer
It's Yzerman eating crow on one of his bad moves. Hopefully more to come.

Personally, I don't really care what he was in Detroit. He just needs to be good enough to help develop our young centers and he's done that thus far. By the time next season's trade deadline comes around, the Sharks will trade him to a contender for a 2nd round pick most likely and that's wonderful after getting paid a 2nd round pick to take his contract.

Big two games for him, nice.

I can't complain tho we get to watch Edvinsson-Seider. You would say then just put Walman on the second pairing, but he always looked awful without Seider, and towards the end there even awful with Seider.

Keep it up Wally!

On the worst team in the NHL, sure.
So? He and Granlund have been amazing for them so far this season. Crazy that the Red Wings have him away not only for nothing but attached a second round pick to him. Fireable offence for whoever make that trade in Detroit.

Oh look, Walman is still a good hockey player

Just like every single wings fan thought before the trade... then all of a sudden he was a bad hockey player after the trade

So I guess we have to hang on to the fact that he was a "bad locker room presence" even tho he seems like a tremendous person outside of hockey

L trade and always will be. Let go of your ego Stevie

Healthy scratched tonight after being directly responsible for 2GA last game.

They outshot the canucks 12-6 5v5 with him on the ice.

They got outshot 9-18 with him on the bench.

Seems like a questionable call.
