G Mackenzie Blackwood (50% retained)
CAR 2025 3rd round pick
To be honest, I would be surprised if this or a similar trade doesn’t happen
Canes need a reliable goalie given the injuries and the Sharks need an opening for Askarov
That kinda complicates things, as Canes don’t have much cap spaceI do think we will trade blackwood. But I hope it will be for a second.
By the way --- the sharks can't retain.
I would not be surprised if the 3rd party team actually gets a better asset than the Sharks do (assuming 50% retention). I’m not sure that’s happened before, but I also am not sure a team has been in the same position as the Sharks are with their retention slots.Sharks can’t retain so if you need it, it’ll require a 5th to a 3rd team or something like that.
No, not enough

While I've learned to never say never, I'll be surprised to see Blackwood get a 2nd round pick or more.Anything short of a 2nd round pick, I want the Sharks to re-sign Blackwood and move out Vanecek.
He's a better 1 or 2 year stopgap and eventual backup for Askarov. A perfect teammate for a young goaltender.

GMs are often dumb though, so you never know.
Another stat-looker.14 decent games after sucking for years suddenly makes Blackwood worth more than a 3rd round pick?
What did I post that is wrong? I watched a lot of Blackwood in NJ. He wasn’t good. He was below average last year as well.Another stat-looker.
