Ed is easily a top five and IMO top three if eligible for Calder this season. The only other D candidate is Hutson, a wizard on PP and puck mover at all times, not even close to as good as Ed defensively and 5v5, second-worst plus/minus on the Habs. The only more impactful rookie for his team is Celebrini, Michkov mostly a PP weapon. Tsyplakov is a nice complementary pro veteran. rookie in name only. In all cases, top pair D over middle-six wingers. My order would be Celebrini, Ed, Michkov, Stankhoven, Hutson.
I dislike the Ed vs. Mo "contest" talk over who will be better. They're both fundamentally two-way all-situations D with eventually equal value to the team, but are different in some key respects. Ed is benefitting tremendously from playing with Mo rather than having to be the leader on his own pair with a much lesser partner. Mo benefits too of course but not to the same degree. We're incredibly fortunate to have both.
