I lost the BC fan Club President gig but I have been leading this charge. This kid is special. Early on in this thread I said the discussion would be about how he was the clear Calder winner if not for a single game played over the limit. I also said, within 2 years he would be seen as on par or better than MO. This guy's game is outstanding. What he is doing as a rookie.... eerrr 1st year player is sensational.

I agree. I said from day one, as good as mo is, Ed will be better. Time will tell.

He’s missed what, 1 game? We’re just spoiled with Seider not missing a shift in 4 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if he opts to have surgery in the off-season. Whatever it is he seems to play through it, until last night of course.

Leaving games a lot is an issue. It means either he gets hurt a lot and/or has low pain tolerance. Still something to be concerned with just cause he hasn't missed more than 1 game. It also has nothing to do with Seider. He barely has any NHL games in his career to date and he has left hurt at some point in like 1 out of 6-7 or so.

This is my worry with him, cause that seemed to be a thing last year as well. Pretty sure they talked about his shoulder being a problem shortly after getting drafted and in GR/DET, he has left games/practices or had days off due to injuries quite a few times already. Great that he hasn't missed a lot of games, but if he keeps getting hurt all the time, that will eventually affect his career.

He had surgery on his shoulder in may of 2023 so hopefully this isn't anything involving that shoulder already.

I would probably disagree with "a lot". He's played less than 16 minutes in two games this season.
He does still need to keep developing physically and mentally to fully protect himself on the ice because he sometimes puts himself in vulnerable positions.
That's one aspect that the people who wanted him up the full 82 last year didn't take into account imo.

What do minutes played have to do with how many times he has been "hurt" already this season. 6 or 7 times that I have seen where he goes to the room or bench hurt, which is very high this far into the season. Most players have 1 or 2 maybe at this point.

6-7 times sounds exaggerated and I wouldn't say someone blocking a shot and missing a shift warrants concern. He's likely nursing some nagging injury too. Surgery, long stays on IR, debilitating injuries, that kind of stuff would be concerning. But we're pretty far from that right now.

It isn't exaggerated We aren't talking about blocked shots, but things like the last game.

Edvinsson is awesome but "currently" I don't think he's even a top 5 rookie in the league, if he is he's in a group of players that are all so "tight" for the Calder race and also he's gotta play a lot more and with other players before I crown him better than Seider... Seiders a top 20 D-man in this league in most circles. He's got a chance to be better but I'm not setting my expectations up like that for a letdown if Edvinsson rounds out as just a solid player.

Edvinsson's looked better than I thought, and I liked the pick when it was made. Always compared him to Tyler Myers(Buffalo days) and he's trending towards being better than that, better skater than I thought. Be really awesome if he does turn out better than Seider too but I'm just happy he's looking like a legitimate #1 LHD.
