Your Worst Nightmare
Is Kapanen as good defensively as his father Sami?

Flyers could really use a middle-6 winger who can PK.
Kapanen is an excellent defensive player. His speed makes only a short few uncatchable on the back check and he's a risk to score every time he's out on the PK. Give him a couple years and put him in a position to succeed and he could be a 70 point player who's your team's best defensive/PK forward.

Nylander is not an NHL centre anymore then Galchenyuk or Drouin or even Freddie Goats...so please just perish the thought

Nylander has already taken over 500 face offs this year and anytime a center has missed time he has moved into the middle and done quite well. 49.6% for someone who isn't there full time yet is respectable.

Maybe the fact that Drouin's faceoff percentage has lowered every season since he got to the NHL to the point he is 40.7% on the draw this year. Galchenyuk same thing, last time he took as many draws as Nylander has he was winning at a rate of 42.7%.

If you don't think Nylander will be a great center you don't watch him play, simple as that. Just because Montreal has two guys that couldn't make the transition doesn't mean all players are doomed to that fate. Starting centers on the wing has been very common in the NHL I don't know why suddenly everyone immediately assumes they won't be able to translate over.

Absolutely silly that the Leafs would give up so much for one year of Simmons. When he's a UFA in 2019, ya the thinking might be different, but even then the Leafs have "lots" of wingers. RHD and centre are needs and that's where money will be spent and if necessary assets will be traded for those positions.

"don't watch him play" is probably the most over used nonsense on this site, the league is littered with players who the fans thought could play centre at that level, there is more to the position then just winning draws. Willie is a great RW and a mediocre centre, he just doesn't have the will to play low in his own end.

An NHL centre has to be a snarling dog in their own end and Willie just isn't that guy, the only NHL centre i can recall not being that way was Gretzky and Willie sure ain't no Gretzky. Anyone who wants to break up what he and Auston do for each other doesn't really get hockey...fans are fans because they are, not because they're experts but simply because they love the game, if you think you know something that NHL coaches don't then you should go get your certies and start the long climb into the big chair.

Marv Levy once said when you start listening to the people in the seats you'll soon end up joining them.

I don't see Simmonds going for much more than a mid-1st and a B-prospect at the draft. It should be obvious to any GM that his ES play has taken a hit this year.

Yeah, I'd love that.

Agreed. If oilers are competitive next year, and don't make any other moves, I could see him going there.

Nah, pretty sure you haven’t watched as he was just getting praised last week for covering his man in front of the net and playing low, like a centre should. This isn’t a Galchenyuk situation whatsoever, he’s played C internationally, in the AHL and the NHL, and hasn’t looked out of place doing it. Furthermore Babcock has already stated he’s being transitioned, and until a spot opens up he’ll act as fill in.

Like you said, fans are fans, and it isn’t the fans transitioning Nylander to C. It is you, a fan, who is disagreeing with the experts however and inaccurately describing how he’s played the position.

For an unsigned Simmonds, I'd say 1st + 2nd + Kapanen is in the ball park.

For a signed Simmonds though, you're likely looking at 1st + 2nd + Liljegren + Kapanen.

He's a perennial 30 goal scorer who still should have 4-5 more years of being capable of 25-30 Goals, 55 points, and a lot of physical play.

That's insane for a guy that hasn't surpassed 60 points in his career....huge pass from the Leafs
