I can’t answer this right now. It depends what they do in the playoffs.

If they lose in the 1st round again and Marner and Tavares play the way they have in the last 8 years? Hell no to both.

If they make it to the cup finals or ECF and they show out? Yes.

Is a Cup finals appearance enough to sway? Or an ECF appearance?
Cup finals - Yes
ECF - Not if it's a demoralizing loss. Different story if it's a battle.

Centers are so valuable, I could be talked into signing JT now as well need a 3C and if he's taking the ROR contract that's an awesome deal.

Marner is looking for a jackpot; it's just not a good fit for the team.

I wouldn’t do it barring a vast underpayment, but I had the same stance for nylander and we saw how that played out

Marner shouldn’t be signed before playoff time unless it’s 11 or under, I know that sounds ridiculous but then what’s the point in signing him earlier. Might as well wait it out and see how the playoffs go, not like we are missing out on anything

Tavares would need to be under 5 and less than 3 years. I don’t want to commit anything more to him, and he still has to show he can be effective at least in the playoffs unlike last year and the florida series. If he’s that level than let him walk.

I agree re. Marner. It's like Nylander last year - they should've waited. No way his price was going go any higher than what they signed him for so why the rush? Same thing with Marner, signing him for 13 million or even more would be insane. What, do they think that if he finally excels in the playoffs he's going to want 15? The 8 years he's been in the NHL, he's turned from a 100 point guy into a 40 point guy once the first 4 playoff games are in the books. I need to see that change before I sign him, never mind giving him a raise.

Tavares is playing so well, if he keeps it up I have no problem paying him 6. I think he'd be fine with that too, he really doesn't want to play anywhere else. And let's not forget that this applies to Marner as well, not only is it his hometown but he also makes a lot on endorsements that he wouldn't be banking elsewhere, there's no reason I can think of to pay him at the absolute top of the range that a player like him could expect to be paid, especially one who's playoff performances haven't been great.

Mirtle, Versteeg, Bunkis, McKee, Bourne have been on record saying Leafs should wait until after the playoffs before signing Marner and Tavares. This morning Korolnek and Feschuk said they do not see a reason to sign the pair before seeing how the team performs in the playoffs.

I'm on record saying there is no reason to sign them before the playoffs unless they give the Leafs a sweet, team friendly deal.
How about not sign them at all

I don’t see a need to rush either contract extension. Let’s see how the remaining regular season goes but most importantly let’s see how the playoffs go before locking into big money and term for either of them.

Correct , if we lose first round or even second we may have to rethink a lot of things. Afterall, this is a business and they put themselves here. They could have a horrible playoffs and devalue themselves.

No argument for signing them before. If they tumble again it will finally be Shanny's head in spite of the fact he and Tre share the same brain. Let the next president make Marner the highest paid Leaf.

I do not think you want that to hang that on the new Pres. and you sure as hell don't want to make him the highest paid Leaf unless you move 34.

Voting no leaves you that option.

Imagine you sign them and the Leafs get swept in the first round.

There's no upside to signing them before nor should they if the team isn't successful in the playoffs. The management group needs a way out instead of trapping themselves with the same core.

These guys have always been regular-season heroes and that's never been the problem.

Tavares is a non factor in the playoffs, his foot speed combined with teams competing harder literally gives him no space. That wont change. I wouldnt pay him more than 4 million aav over 2 yrs. He is gonna keep declining and one of these years the decline will be huge. I probably would part ways with him.
