Lol my god this place is like the comments on Rangers twitter sometimes. Can always count on the internet for overreaction.

I will say this, it was evident how important our stars were, and I think that's money well spent. Glad to see, this window is legit. But essentially last night you got to see what we'd be like if we were actually a rebuilding team. In the few days leading up to Dr. Strange and Multiverse of Madness, it's fitting to see a different reality of this Rangers team.

The worst in the league is an exaggeration, but none of the kid line save maybe Laffy are playing what you want a good team's 3rd liners to play as. And Schneider and Nemeth are horrible. I know Schneider is a kid but that doesn't help us in 2022. Also our 4th line is horrendous.
I don't agree with Schneider being horrible and clearly neither does the coaching staff. He's only been scratched, I think once since he's been brought up and has been terrific in most games. Nemeth has been a highly serviceable 3rd pair defensemen all year. Granted he's not Adam Fox but that's not what you should be expecting from a 3rd pair defensemen.

Braun was pretty solid last night and has been solid overall. Not sure how you come away with “absolutely terrible”

Absolutely terrible was probably harsh but overall I don't see him as a meaningful upgrade over Nemeth in anyway.

Highly serviceable is overstating it. Hes not absolutely Marc staal terrible but he’s also not good. He’s a very good 7/8 defenseman. Braun is the better of the two by far.

He will be out of the league next year. He's a bad ECHLer. I remember when we thought he was our future. The most amazing thing is he has the best goalie coach in the league and this turd still can't play like an NHL goalie.
He's a head case. If he's the unquestioned #1, you can get low-to-mid level starter numbers out of him. The second he has real competition and can't play as much, he folds up like a cheap lawn chair.

Hopefully, we can get a late round pick for his RFA rights.

Schneider has been up because we don't have good options, though Braun is decent. That third pairing was playing better recently but they're still a weak link. It's almost always them getting pinned in our zone.

No good options? THe Rangers have Jones, Lundqvist all in the minors... I don't understand how you can possibly not see these players as "options" Both would be playing in the NHL if it were not for our depth on defense. If you think Braun is a better option I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone can make that conclusion based on the games he's played. He's never looked good. If you believe Nemeth has looked "bad" that's a different argument. By my standards a 5/6 defensemen should go unnoticed most nights and I think that's exactly how'd I'd describe Nemeth this year.

Schneider has been up and down, but he’s an nhl bottom pair defenseman right now, who absolutely has top 4 ceiling. He doesn’t get bodied even tho he hasn’t filled out entirely yet. He’s good on moving the puck and he’s got good timing to pinch and join the play.

I wish Jones has played more, Lundkvist was whatever when he was up, nothing great.

i mean we did get to see that in 2018, remember that all-star d-core of Gilmour, O'Gara, Staal, et al

A few 20-22yr olds can't run this team yet (and georgie was the one who lost this game 100%). Shocker. If we had the full lineup+Shesty, this is more than likely a 4-0,4-1 beat down. How there is any doom and gloom here is astonishing after such a meaningless game.

For sure.

But it also offers a glimpse into how much more we will eventually need from the kids when Panarin, Kreider, Trouba, Zibby, and the current vet core of players 28+ is gone.

Keeping Fox, Miller, and Shesty as a core is great but we will need more star forwards.

We drafted Laf and Kak hoping they'd be superstars. We are waiting. We've all seen the flashes. Patience. 3 years ago we looked like it might take ten years to win a playoff series now here we are in pretty damn good position to take a round.

If Laf and Kak are 40 point players in two years then we'll be in some trouble, but really, even then, they'll be 22/23 which is still very young. I had hoped they'd be 70pt players out of the gate but as many here know and have stated numerous times, we had the luxury 99% of rebuild teams never had, a rather deep top six before 1 & 2 got here.

btw, I HATE the kid line. Laf and Kakko can be effective but not together, and not centered by Chytil. Gallant pisses me off so much.
Kakko is the biggest part of any combination of players working on the third line and he'll probably need a few games to get rolling again. Chytil is also the best chance of any combination of players on that third line actually entering the offensive zone. Laf or Kakko aren't very good at getting through the neutral zone nor are they very good at the dump and chase. Chytil can skate by the neutral zone if he's got the speed. I definitely don't mind Laf moving up but I think GG will stick with Vatrano on that top line, but Kakko and Chytil can combine to make an effective third line. Kakko is the key to the third line.

It could cost us home ice for every other round of the playoffs
Mind you our home and away record wasn't much different and the home record was bolstered by the pickups. Still good to get home ice but also good to avoid injuries and have star players rested.
