Future isn't bad but they need good role models. Actually Ladd had far surpassed my expectations, where are Toby and Buf?

Buff is #2? In scoring for a d man in the league. Enstrom has consistently been the teams best D this season. What more do you expect from them?

I don't think the game was as bad as alot of people are suggesting.

First period was downright ugly, but I'd say we outplayed them for the most part in the second or the third. Scheif's line was pretty good.

Wheeler, as most have commented, was abysmal but I'm still not worried about him as he usually looks like **** until this point in the season anyway (not that that's acceptable, but what are you gonna do). I think he knows he's playing like crap and for guys like him, who I do believe actually take alot of pride in their game, that tends to weigh on him. I believe we will see him turn it around in the next few games.

Too many times this season a loss can be directly attributed to a downright abysmal powerplay. I'd love to see the stats on powerplay goals scored/shorthanded goals allowed since the middle of October or so when that dry spell started. The talent is there on this team to get it done on the PP, there is no doubt in my mind. Change the coach in charge, change the personnel... change something. It's not working.

Did kane get injured? Only 7 min Ice time

Yes.

If he can't go, there's an interesting opportunity here. The IceCaps are playing this weekend in upstate New York (Syracuse and Binghamtom). It's just a short bus ride down to NYC for the Jets Monday game. O'Dell come on down! I hope.

Is it right or Left wing that he can play in addition to center? Either way he could potentially help our pp, oh who am I kidding our coaching staff will probably play him on the point if he gets pp time :P.

All kidding aside the pp needs a major overhaul. Its time to put Mark on halfboards where he belongs and give him a couple of LH targets to hit on the one timer.

I was thinking the same thing - would really like to see him get a shot, even at wing.

Considering the practice yesterday, and the effort today. Think Chevy should look to make a trade to shake things up. Players are feeling too much security with their job positions considering how little available depth we have to scratch anyone outside the D.

Why is our PP telegraphed? Get it to the point for a blast, it cost us 3 break-aways against today, one of which was the short handed winner goals.

Keep the puck low, collapse on the net, shoot from the sides or look for the thread passes. Keep the other team guessing.

It's quite honestly just an odd mix. Be it they're not professional enough to a man to get it going and do what it takes, or Noel simply doesn't get through to them, or leadership is lacking, who really knows. :dunno:

Who do you trade though? Not a lot of teams have cap space to take any of our big names (plus they mostly have NMCs)...is trading Tangradi going to shake up anyone? Maybe if Chevy traded Thorburn or Wright that would shake up Noel...

Personally, I'd like to see Clownshow Clitsome buried in some kind of time capsule so future generations can see just what terrible D looks like.

Coach Noel post-game

Coach-Noel-post-game-lose-to-Flyers-300x170.jpg

Coach Noel - Assessment of the game. Any theory as to why it was a slow start? Evander Kane update. Fixing the problems. Putting Buff up front on the PP. Disappointed they didn’t get a bigger boost from the 5 on 3 penalty kill?

To listen click here.

No(el)table Quotes:

- “Obviously the first period was one where we weren’t engaged in the game”

- “Our power play was disappointing. Can’t get anything out of it and haven’t been able to through the year. Not like its anything new for us. Finding solutions to that issue and that problem is certainly a challenge for us”.

- “He (Kane) has a lower body (injury). Wasn’t able to continue”.

- “There has to be a point here where the players have to get engaged amongst themselves.”

- “We just weren’t good enough. We didn’t play well enough to win. We weren’t good enough to win the game.”

We should have been down 3-0 after the first and it was a miracle that we even got a sniff in this game. I thought we settled down and played better (but not good) in the 2nd and 3rd periods but too little to late. No way we deserved a point this morning, that would have been highway robbery. Pavs played very well....Mason also played really well for Philly.

What a horrible game. The effort was generally okay after the first 10 minutes, but they were just making stupid plays all night long.

Wheeler is officially my least favourite forward right now. His effectiveness : talent ratio is at an all-time low. He just doesn't seem intense on the puck and isn't concentrating half the time.

Scheifele had a point but was otherwise a non-entity, I thought. Couturier was so much better than him it must have been almost embarrassing for Chevy to watch.

Frolik was solid - I still have no idea why he never kills penalties.

When you have to play Thorburn to replace Kane on one of the top lines when you are down by a couple of goals you know that you have absolutely no depth. It also suggests that Noel has realized that Wright has nothing to offer on the offensive end.

Setoguchi had another decent game. I like his effort and zip.

Kane hasn't been very effective lately, but when he is out of the lineup you realize that he brings a dynamism and jam that none of the other forwards can muster.

What more can you say about the PP? It is absolutely atrocious. They have no system for even entering the zone. It just looks like game of shinny where whoever retrieves the puck in the D zone tries some random rush or play to get the puck into the zone. Hard to imagine that Craig Berube coached team has much better special teams than the Jets. The Flyers are effective at entering the zone on the PP, and they are effective and dangerous on the PK. If they had a point man like Buff or Enstrom, they would be a terror on the PP.

If Jokinen didn't get two stupid penalties I wouldn't have been sure that he actually played the game. Yucchh!

Brutal first period. Inexcusable.

The PP is killing us. Not only can we not count on getting the occasional PP goal, but we actually get scored against or barely generate any offence on the PP. Its really awful. I mean WTH?

What the heck is with our passing? Holy hell. How many passes bounce off opposing players who are just standing there? If the pass does happen to get through to its intended target, its too hard and bouncing, its in the guys skates or behind him, or it bounces off his hands of stone and lands on an opponents stick. This entire season, our passing has been brutal.

What the hell is wrong with us in the D zone? Even in games we win, there's always extended periods where we are corralled in our zone and CAN"T MOVE THE ****ING PUCK OVER THE BLUE LINE!!!!! AAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!:rant: The first period today was crazy. Then, when we DO somehow manage to move the puck into the O zone, the second the other team gets in on their stick its pass, pass, and its back in our zone! Maddening!

Joki seems to slowly be reverting to last years form, have to think this is his last year in the NHL. Beside's all the BS from him and everyone else that last season was just an off year, don't think so, it's called "over the hill".

Who stood out on D for the whole game, caught a bit of Enstrom fumbling the puck on the PP as usual.

What are our chances of making the playoffs? Assuming 97-98 points get you in, what does our record have to be going forward?

They could safely have let the Zamboni do the Flyers' zone for the first period. I don't think we made it past centre ice for the first four minutes.
