Could some of the top teams be relegated if they continue to forfeit games?

Because some asymptonic covid cases have developed to myocarditis, they are afraid of that ... no point to risk players who have their future ahead for one international tournament.

Oilers' Archibald's risk of myocarditis would have been '10,000-fold' lower from COVID-19 vaccine: cardiologist
Oilers G Alex Stalock to miss season with COVID-related heart condition

Archibald was unvaccinated while I believe Stalock got Covid before the vaccines were available.

The VAST majority of vaccinated individuals don't have severe symptoms.

If this is how IIHF goes about things for the whole tournament, then I'm leaning towards yes. What a dogshit gongshow this is.

Why wouldn't they allow countries to keep taxi squads in the event a player tested positive?

The Russians kept all of their NA kids off the roster. All are probably healthy and now look at them forfeiting their game.

Tournament is finished if it’s true Russia is now forfeiting a game.

Cancel it now, this is completely meaninglesss. There is no integrity to the round robin results.

Feel really bad for the kids, especially given that they are all double vaccinated and worked so hard to be here.
What do you mean? 4 teams goes through from both groups, and those teams will probably be the same teams that would go through without these forfeits.

They still have time to get their act together and arrange some bubble, that shouldn't be too hard. If there are some similar issues during quarter finals and decisive games, i'm going to agree. But for now this tournament should go on.

And if this tournament continues normally, i hope that which ever team wins it don't have to listen that asterisk or no integrity bullsh*t

It looks like the US, Czechs and Russia are probably out of the tournament already. More teams may follow. If any come back, the results are too skewed to mean much, and with COVID going through the tournament continuing play just invites more transmission.

Call it a day.

Think of how you might feel if it were your team that is under quarantine -- which it very well might be as soon as today or tomorrow.

The tournament is irrelevant when you prohibit completely healthy athletes from competing due to arbitrary and ever-changing political rules. Play it out but the asterisk will be real.

It's not political rules it's health measures and guidelines that everyone was aware of going in.

That is a distinction with a difference.

That being said playing in a bubble would have made more sense but hindsight is 20-20

I think it will be tomorrow or NYE when they cancel the tournament for good. They tried to make the tournament nicer for players and avoid the buble. Unfortunately that was a mistake that costs us the whole tournament.

No relegation this year.

If they keep this up, the champion could be the last team standing.

Maybe Austia? Why not Austria?

It's time to pull the plug and call it a day.

This and if you ask the players what they want I'd gather most would want to play, which is far more relevant than any of our feelings.
I can’t speak for them but I’m going to take a guess and say if the players were asked what to do atleast 98% of them would say they want to play.
