As soon as someone lays a finger on McDavid, Kane is right there ready to throw hands. What a terrible toxic team mate.

In an alternate universe we have Kane as 2LW and Kadri at 3C sweeping teams in the playoffs.
Why would Kane be here in an alternate universe when he was never connected to us? In an alternate universe he wouldn't have off ice issues and would still be in Winnipeg, Buffalo or San Jose.

And now they were kicked out of the first round (again) and Edmonton is on its way to the western conference finals. Congrats the the Toronto Maple Leafs and all of MLSE for showing excellent judgment. I cant wait for the "Took Tampa to 7" banner to be raised to the rafters!!!
I don't recall seeing rumours that Kane wanted to come here (could be wrong) so I'm not sure why you're ridiculing the Leafs for not signing him. The player has to want to come here, too.

For sure it’s a two way street. I don’t recall hearing Dubas reached out either. Perhaps if he had….

i was in the sign kane camp. So f***ing stupid that we wouldn't even reach out. Although hell no now. He is going to get a large contract and it will be a mistake unless its with the oilers because no other team has mcdaddy.

Is there a source saying we never reached out? I can definitely see that since we are a big culture club.

Also, hard to beat the Oiler's offer of "hey come play with McDavid, get a bunch of easy points and get a monster contract next year from someone."

Something tells me Kane is more concerned with money than winning (could be wrong).

"hey come play on the top line with Matthews and Marner" is a pretty good offer too

Kane is broke, divorced and is a gambling addict. He's 100% gonna be looking for money on his next deal. If you work at McDonald's making $16/hour and have no savings but also no debts, you're in better financial shape than Kane is. Not even an exaggeration.

I hope so, watching him work his cancer magic, undermining the team, after signing a huge overpayment contract would be hilarious.
I don't know why all of a sudden Kadri and Kane are somehow worshipped as heroes for some reason. Yes, they both have played well this season but man...do you have a lot of potential baggage in that cart with them. I would never risk signing Kane....if Big Buff is throwing your track suit in the shower....there is something really wrong with you.

The media is making them out to be saints all of a sudden. Kadri probably just because he isn't playing here and Kane because they think he is just misunderstood. I wouldn't want either of them...

I would never even of entertained the idea before but I just wonder if we go for the nice guys too much

Problem with these discussions is the presumption that just because the Leafs would be interested, the playwr would have automatically came.

The Oilers in the grand scheme of things are a smaller market team with a hugely homerific local media. The perfect environment for a guy like Kane for a second start. He was also gifted icetime beside the top player in the league there too. He likely wasn't going to usurp Bunting. Meaning Tavares was his most likely linemate on Toronto.

With the oilers moving on to the conference finals and the opportunity to play with Mcdavid who just scored the series winning goal and Leon Draisaitl scoring 17 points in this series why would Kane ever want to leave them,
Our stars are not even close to those guys

Depends how much he wants & if Edmonton is willing to pay. He screwed himself out of his last major contract and this is likely his last chance to sign another one.

That’s true. He is such a talented player just to bad his personal life is such a train wreck

I believe they'd rather lose than consider rogue/suspect characters to fortify the team. Okay, they'll consider suspect characters if it's the right kind of character issues: flakiness, insubordination, childishness, mental health troubles.

If people think championship teams are top to bottom nothing other than great human beings, think again. Serial womanizers, individuals with tumultuous home lives, petty criminal behaviour, bigots, misogynists, drug addicts, alcoholics, gun enthusiasts have populated and will continue to populate the roster of championship teams. This is because sports are results based not virtue based.

Sounds like it was a perfect situation to exploit for a team looking to make an impactful short term addition to its lineup at a low cost.

The idea has merit. If you leave the person out he looks like a good fit on paper. Probably better than bunting on the main line.

However he's not giving us a discount so we couldn't afford him. He'll go to the highest bidder. I could see Seattle wanting him.

& for a player to raise his value playing with a super elite player.

I've got to believe regardless of what he accomplishes this playoffs, he's not getting a long term contract from any organization. There's too much risk.
The only thing going for Kane is that if he screws up...it will end in a contract termination and the team doesn't have to keep his cap on the books. He won't be a problem if that is the case. I would still stay the hell away from a guy with that kind of character in the locker room.
