What tells you this is a sound hire is the lack of negative reaction here. Nary a one. I can’t remember the last time I saw a coach hired without any one knocking it.

It's definitely a different reaction to when Ruff was hired. That was a mix of negativity or very healthy skepticism. I don't think anyone felt good about him

He just needs to not have a messed up shoulder. No amount of riding him was gonna get him to engage physically when he just couldn’t do it. Healthy Jack is a top 10 player in the league.
Jack got way too much special treatment when he and his bro F'd up. Dougie back to pp1 for starters

I don’t really understand the fixation with punishing players like that’s going to do anything or was the reason we weren’t good last year. I’m very glad Luke and Nemec were developed properly last year and didn’t have to deal with some hard ass douche that would neuter them.

We just signed up for a first round exit
So if you believe in first round exit only - how about crow steak if we will make it better?

I believe people will regret about him right after second first round losing.

But just imagine if The Devils will play in the second round in two years or in the second year. Do you like DevilsDoggo meme?

He's won 5 playoff series and counting in 2 years, they had 4 as a franchise previous, that's a big step up lol.
We've won 5 playoff series total since the start of the 06-07 season.

getting close bowman in games coached with a catalogue of 2 conference championships ('02 carolina, '24 florida)... that's stellar longevity with f*** all.

(and while we're at it .... take one game off of arbour's games coached number for the sham in '08 when the isles made a mockery of the game's stats for him to get a nice f***ing round number for the books ..."1500" games coached my ass)

Ive never seen so much hatred for the most irrelevant team in the world lmao.

And how are they the pretenders? They literally have only become a top team the last few seasons. It’s not like they were expected to win it all every season these past 4-5 years. It takes time to win a cup, even for the best of teams and they are starting to become a perennial contender just now. They are the 5th youngest team out of the 16 playoff teams.

And theres absolutely nothing to get on Maurice these last two seasons. Who cares about his past, he has gotten a lot out of this FLA squad these past 14 months. Thats all that matters at the moment

the pretenders moniker goes back to '12 when they won their division and lost.... '16 same thing... and '22 .....it's not new.

but yes, past has nothing to do with present ... in the end, seeing the panthers win a cup would be like the jackets or yotes or the sabres winning.

Ehhh, that 12 team wasn’t good. It was a shit division and they made it by on loser pts, basically this years Isles team. No one expected them to go anywhere then.

No one expected them to go anywhere in 16.

They had one breakout season under Brunette, but no one expected them to go anywhere in the playoffs as it was a relatively new squad getting playoff experience together.

Last year, no one expected them to go anywhere.

This year is the first legit year where people are penciling them in to go far.

Sorry my friend, I just don’t see how they can be called the Pretenders as of now. :) Call me in a few years,on my Dano-phone (patent pending) 1-800-OHMY

They are not jackets or Sabres. Its Barkov, M Tkachuk and Bennet. They are the worst players to play against all over the league. Barkov and M Tkachuk are may be the duo of best players from 200 foot game perspective. And now they are quite experienced.

I remember some guy told me that their last year final was outlier(after president cup year before). No, its not. Sometimes teams, who was bad many years before, are starting to be great. St Louis couldn't win it for a very long time. And its not about winning only. Florida is playing greatly and they are very hard to play against.

Good hire for New Jersey. Better than Woodcroft with Oilers playoff performance confirming Jay severally underachieved with that roster.

I agree with others have said, I think we got the best guy on the market with Brind'Amour and Sullivan both staying.

I like that Toronto was very good defensively under Keefe despite below par goaltending. It gives me great comfort that if Fitz can get the goaltending situation right in offseason, we should be playoff bound next season.

Even if they will not win it, they still solid and competitive. Their team is good now. They are not the team of only one Pavel Bure or bunch of hard workers with names who miracly won play off spot. They are huge contenders now. They outplayed rangers in the first game and outscored the best goalie of the league.
And yeah, I understand personal feelings. I don't like Montreal a lot for example. But still they have intriguing set of players and there is a chance they will draft very talented player on this draft too. And after some time with experience they have a chance to be competitive team too. Thanks God they were historically stupid to not draft Michkov.
On the other hand big part of my hate is building on it, so thanks them.

Weaknesses:
- Large sample size of failing to adapt in a playoff series until it is too late.
- A pattern of the team taking nights off, especially against bottom feeders.
- Some critiscm of being too easy on players when they needed a firm hand
-Can't be worse then Ruff
-After last season the Devils are professionals at that
- At least Hischier won't need a firm hand since his entire existence is pain.

Meh hire. Could be better could be worse.

Positive: The Leafs stayed competitive playoff these despite having goaltending nearly as bad as us. He also had them playing with structure and we probably have higher end D talent than the Leafs have.

Negative: That structure helped to sap all offense from the team come playoff time.
Jeremy Swayman was what sapped their offense. He helped the Bruins almost go 7 games with the Panthers. He was Boston's best player.
