It’s a 2026 3rd round pick for (essentially) DeAngelo again. I don’t see how anyone can be upset with this.
I mean, if there's no retention I can be because that means we're prettymuch done for the deadline when there were some solid rumors around Hayes, Boeser, and hell even Tofolli or Lindholm. But I have to assume there was retention given he's an impending UFA.

Dressing 7 d-men isn't out of the question at this point. We did that quite a bit back when Laviolette was coaching and Rod was playing IIRC.
I did think about that, given his PP capability and his 5-on-5 … mediocrity?

We don’t need him to be good defensively, we need him to help out on the power play.
I mean unless we plan on running our top 4 for 55 mins a night, he's gonna need to play some 5v5 hockey and he's not good at all at that. And I'm not sure I like either CDH or Chatfield paired with him.

Coming from Arizona and returning a 2026 3rd? I'm not assuming anything.

Yeah, no retention is being reported. So I don't like that. I do think they'll add another depth piece, but the bigger dreams are likely dead. That part I do find disappointing, but we'll see what comes over the next two days.

Tofolli and Lindholm were likely pipe dreams and Hayes and Boeser wouldn’t move the needle for what they likely would have cost.

I’ve got no issue with this deadline. We have a good team, we made moves to address its main weakness and we didn’t lose anyone on the roster, nor did we sink the future. That’s not an easy task.

Sounds like the Canes are indeed done. Seems like they didn't want to pay market rates for the big fish and also don't want to delete anyone from the current roster.

I will say, they seemed to take the one true big swing, and it didn't work for the many reasons we've discussed. After that, it's not surprising they went with the types of guys they did. They've always said they don't want big prices for rentals and that you largely build your team in the offseason (the exception being a Meier-type if you can pull it off). I guess the upside is we still have the 1st to shop in the offseason. And I still think we are an elite team and a Cup contender.

I mean it's better than them doing nothing. At least adds some depth, and Pulju and Ghost are decent buy low candidates that could maybe do more on a different team.

Still kind of disappointed especially given who our rivals acquired. But it is what it is.
