By all means
but if you fall short on the cup, you are out an asset if he does not return.

If deal is reasonably returning enough, consider taking
or take your chances.

I'd much rather take my chances on keeping him for a deep playoff run rather than trade him for spare parts we don't need.

Depends on who the rental is, likelihood of re-sign, and cap savings, including structural cap of Stepan's 6.5

the ? is where does he really want to play next year, or does he even want to check out the whole market.

there is a middle ground.
guarantee of reasonable payment for rental instead of
excessive overpay at one end by acquiring team and loss of asset for nothing not worth it if ya don't win the cup

don't know enough on Wally to comment further now
in theory we are interested to a replacement to Staal if/when we move him

didn't mean to suggest you said that
meant to say that that would be top return from Boston, and B's won't pay THAT, so what could you realistically hope for?

How is that different from getting a rental at the deadline? Here is the issue: we are still in win now mode. And if we can't get value that helps or something solid for the future: which isn't a late first round pick, then why do it?

Rangers have the youth, but fans here and in all likelyhood management won't move them. So adding nothing that helps now or in the future doesn't change things for us. Have a chance at the playoff run is better then just getting junk assets.

Rentals happen when a team is out of the playoffs, in which case they pick up assets for a player that doesn't help them. We are still contending, so having Shatty for another run is better then picking up stuff that doesn't help this year or next.

Shatty will likely sign in New York. No need to waste assets acquiring him.

Unless he gets traded and signs with the team that traded for him or he re-signs with the same team, and the Rangers don't get a chance at all and then Rangers fans start yelling saying that the GM should have traded for him. I've seen this go down before.

I use to think "keep Shattenkirk for a Playoff run" was BS....but look at the west, it suuuucks. It is entirely possible the Blues can do damage again. I've come to accept it is a viable option.

Shattenkirk is not guaranteed to sign in NY. He told Armstrong he would extend with 5 teams. We're lead to beleive 4 teams in the east, 1 team out west.

I would be interested in making Shattenkirk/Stepan work. It would be a larger deal due to contracts, but the Blues aren't kicking in something Juicy. Throw something together Bern. Remember...if you try to pluck a valuable asset...you better send one back

we continuously revisit this topic. we shouldn't be trading for a rental even if he did want to play with us how much money would it take to resign him...

I'd offer Klein + 2nd conditional to become a 1st if we reach the conference finals.
Or Klein + Lindberg + picks/prospects but they seem to want a first.

I'm getting so sick of this. The Blues do NOT have to trade Shatty and we can in fact resign him but it doesn't make sense from our standpoint to have so much invested in defense. If we trade Shatty it's going to be to a team he resigns with, you can bet on it. So stop trying to say it's for a UFA or a rental when it's not either of those things.

There is no world where Shattenkirk fetches Stepan or a similar piece.

K. Inform the Ranger fans to stop asking for him. Roll the dice if he reaches FA. The Blues are not going to accept pocket change for him.

I just honestly don't see how you could see that as realistic. I am asking.

Its what the Blues need. A poster asked, he received his answer.

These threads constantly devolve into this. Rangers fans continually make threads about Shattenkirk hoping at some point a 2nd+crap will make it happen. Its not so unless Ranger fans want to fantasy give up players....there will never be a "deal" reached.

Doug Armstrong wanted Taylor Hall for what would be an extended Shattenkirk. Untill he feels pressured to trade him. Thats the value the Blues are looking for.

Stefan for Shatty is probably the only thing that would be what the Blues want. Blues should resign him though. If just to spite all the Rangers fans who are just gonna grab him as a UFA, hometown discount, blah, blah, blah.

Add for what, Stepan? The deal would have more moving parts since Stepan makss 6.5m. You might get an ok prospect but nothing major...Stepan isnt THAT great...just about tweener 1/2c for Stl.

If you're refering to Hall. The info we got was a straight trade if Shattenkirk was open to staying in Edmonton, He wasnt. Edmonton would have still done the deal without an extension but the Blues then would have had to add something major....most likely Fabbri. That was a big no no at that point.

David krejci is what was being asked from Boston. There is a lot of debate on if the value is there, but..... that is what St.Louis was seeking.

DK is better then Stepan. As I said, I don't see a deal to be made with NYR.

Another Shattenkirk thread created by Rags fans. Still they will sign him at UFA market.

Stepan has put more numbers up since the last lockout than nearly all you forwards barring Tarasenko and Steen. Even levels with Lehtera but like I said in another thread Rangers players get massively undervalued for 'having a team play style' where we the players excel as a squad instead of individuals. We have consistently has a solid amount of players hit strong numbers. We have 12 players already hitting double figures.
