For the relevant Eastern teams, who has the expendable contracts to move out to accomodate his contract (even at 50%)?

I take back my original opinion.

Now I believe there will be a bidding war for him. His prior season’s performance plus any San Jose retention makes this too good when winning now is the barometer. If somebody gets a dynamic (asshole) 30+ goal scorer for pennies on the dollar both trade and cap wise, good luck against them. I’d roll these dice.

If he finally decided to grow up that contract is crazy good value for a team willing to take the chance

Can you do double retention?
So a deal where SJ ships him to Van @50% then Van ships him to the Leafs @1.75
so the Leafs would send assets to SJ and to Van

Kane is a talented player, but he has proven to be a huge headache off the ice and does not seem to be well-liked by other players. Even with 50% salary retention, any team that trades for him needs to be extremely cognizant of what they are getting themselves into.

He's still a very good forward for what it's worth. A team with a very strong leadership group in place should take the gamble.

At 50% I would take the chance with him in Toronto.
Is it possible to get him at 1.75??
Say send something decent to Sj and something decent to a team with a ton of cap space over the next cpl season to retain an other 50%
