Rumor: Sharks working on Evander Kane trade, will eat 50%

Yeah I don’t really disagree that you shouldn’t pay a prohibitive price to get rid of him.
But if anyone offers an asset for him at 50% retention the Sharks should take it.
I don’t know that anyone will offer anything. He is definitely damaged goods at this point. I get that he is a great player but he comes with tons of baggage. I have seen people say that a veteran team with good leadership could use him. But the Sharks have had great veteran leaders in his time there and he still has caused problems.

All depends on what that asset is. I would expect it to be a dead weight deal that adds to their cap realistically and I don't want any part of that.

I would agree to that. No need to make things worse for yourselves overall. But if the dead cap space players coming back have deals that expire this season or next it might still help. Especially if they are guys that could be flipped at the deadline this year or next for mid round picks.

I think he gets placed on waivers.

Would be funny to see him play on the Seattle Kraken because it'd officially be the Squid Games.

But if they trade him to a team, probably to Arizona for Ladd+ because they despise each other. Other than that, I don't think any teams want him, Carolina maybe. But if he gets assigned to the AHL, he ends up going to the Chicago Wolves.

Doesn't mean it's worth it for the Sharks to do so. We're not paying to get rid of Kane. I don't think anyone will want Kane even at 50%. Any trade talk likely involves paying to move him or taking back a worse contract so it'll just be easier to buy him out.

Where did they make it known that they will retain?
Friedman reported it earlier.

Imma be lame, but due to his term and aav I think he has to rejoin the team he’s on.

Covid cap makes 7 mil player movement insanely hard, not even counting the number of off-ice issues Evander has.

I’m surprised his contract still exists after potentially forging medical documents. Imo that should have been grounds for contract termination if true. It’s breach.

Hockey wise Edmonton would be the best situation for him, and the Oilers probably could do Kassian for Kane @50% retained, but the PR headaches he comes with are probably too high. On the ice he would demolish it paired with McDavid or Draisaitl but does anyone trust him to get his act together off the ice is the question.

Yeah if all that off ice stuff doesn’t matter why would the Sharks trade him?

The only reason why his name is subject to trade rumors is because of issues between him and other members of the team that was going on well before the off ice shenanigans this offseason.

So you don’t want to trade him because of these off ice issues. You want to trade him because of a completely different set of off ice issues. His 3rd team now that he has completely worn out his welcome on…..

Yeah other GMs totally won’t care about that.

Kane is an asset on a veteran team. You can't have him around a younger, developing team. Dude still has some really good hockey in him... If he could just get his personal life together.

He could totally destroy your team but as a TML fan I would consider him at full tilt if the SJS took this package:

TML
Kerfoot
Mrazek
Ritchie

SJS
Kane

Yes the TML get the best player out of the deal but one who has some serious issues as a teammate and nobody appears to want. We also get rid of some disastrous signings and it allows us to sign Campbell and enough cap space to go after a Halak from Vancouver as a back up for this year.

SJS get Kerfoot who has been great 5/5 and a .5 PPG pace and can play PK, Ritchie who lets be honest has been a black hole but is better than he has shown-needs a fresh start away from the spotlights and Mrazek who is a good goalie when healthy.

Are people still pretending they can trade this guy?
That’s not going to happen.
You could not pay anyone enough to even have his name in the headlines attached to their team name even for a buyout.

Lmao.
SJ has the 13th youngest average age, but continue…

I'll continue. He joined a veteran team in SJ and ... guess what... was still a dirt bag.

So while they've brought in some younger guys now, there's no evidence that when he joined the team and when he played there that he was straighten out by a veteran team.

So the idea that going to a veteran team now would straighten him out is....stupid.
