Can you do double retention?
So a deal where SJ ships him to Van @50% then Van ships him to the Leafs @1.75
so the Leafs would send assets to SJ and to Van

Don't know if anyone replied to you, but Columbus did this last year with both Savard and Foligno, but they were both UFA to be. A team that only wants to hit the floor should be all over this

I would love to have him in NJ, he is exactly what the team needs but NJ don’t have the veteran leadership to keep him in line.

Carolina makes the most sense. The DeAngelo success this season shows they can handle a problem player. And they also have Kane’s old Atlanta GM in Don Waddell that drafted him.
"The DeAngelo success this season shows they can handle a problem player." So could Rangers for a while also. I mean nothing is proven yet :sarcasm:

Kane on waivers as one team pursues him — The Fourth Period

"Kane, who has been in and out of the NHL’s player assistance program dating back to at least last season, has a three-team trade list as part of his contract but does not own a full no-movement clause, which is why he was placed on waivers. Kane can update his list each season and at one point, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets were strategically on his trade list, a source confirmed to TFP."

That's a hilarious way of saying "I don't want to be traded". Buffalo, Winnipeg, Tampa.
I am fairly sure his list will expand when its a choice between being traded to an NHL team or riding the bus in the minors. He doesn't seem like the type of player who will be a "good" pro and take a permanent demotion to the AHL well.

If we buy him out at the start of this upcoming offseason it would look like this:

So to all you people sending us your cap dumps back, keep in mind there's no point in us giving you big assets back when we can just do this instead and keep our futures.

I don't believe for a second a trade is being worked on. I'm sure they'd love nothing more than to rid themselves of him but I can't see any team being interested with the term still left and the baggage he brings. He's too much of a PR nightmare in today's society and media.

Thats just trying to sell Harrison Ford's movie. Even just a few short years ago he would have demanded the biggest pic

Yea I'm sure that's it. Seeing how John Boyega was shrunk and moved into a more concealed area in favor of the
Falcon. I have a friend who played pro ball in China. He would tell me the tales of how he always stayed in to watch movies rather than deal with the looks.

It was made smaller than Harrison Ford.

It’s the three years remaining that sucks .
If it was one … you can give him a chance snd at first sign if any issues , you turf his ass . Only thing is , it’s too risky in that if that happens , you are paying for him to be away from your team for three years …
Who knows though . Maybe he has realized he is near rock bottom snd this is his last chance and will be a model team mate ….
I’m not sure if I’d want to take the risk but he is a very talented player snd plays a style that not many players can

I would imagine that is not the case anymore. He did like SJ for sure, but to not be open to moving now would be insane.

That's assuming that he is in control of his actions. All indications are that he is not, ands is likely deep in the throes of at least one addiction.

It would cost the Sharks an extra $6 million to bury Kane. Not a big deal. And they can hope he skips town and they won't have to pay him to ride the bus.

No, the Jets wouldn’t.
Not only do we not need LW, but we definitely don’t need his BS attitude and off ice issues.

The Jets would take him back…… There are some Manitoba restaurants/bars that would like to try and collect some outstanding bar /restaurant tabs…… also some under ground casinos have some markers out!

Can teams trade buy outs?

Meaning if they have a player that they have previously bought out, lets say 1.5 per year, can they trade that 1.5 bought out salary to another team?

Clean Hits on Substack
To SJS:
Phil Kessel
Josef Korenar

To ARI:
Evander Kane (no retention)
Adin Hill
Ozzy Wiesblatt

——

To VAN:
Evander Kane (50% retained)
Carter Hutton (waived and buried)

To ARI:
Danila Klimovich

——

ARI: Upgrades to Adin Hill in goal (Vejmelka to Tucson) and adds Wiesblatt and Klimovich to the growing prospect pool. They can call-up Maccelli to replace Kessel in Phoenix and then Klimovich can replace Maccelli in Tucson. The cost is 4yrs of retention on Kane and the loss of Phil Kessel.

SJS: Gets out of Kane’s contract with zero retention. Get a really nice replacement in Phil Kessel. Costs them Hill and Wiesblatt.

VAN: Get a deadly goal scoring power winger with Vancouver ties at a deeply discounted rate. Costs them Klimovich.

That frees up a lot of cap space for SJ. Problem is, we're not a contending team, so there is no need for us to free up cap space at the cost of a recent 1st rounder. I'd rather buy Kane out in the offseason and suck up the cap hit for 3 years. After the third year (which is also when prospects that come in will start getting off ELCs) the buyout will only be at 1.6M which is tolerable.
