Well then switch him and Sheppard. Give Sheppard a shot to roll with the big dogs and put Havlat where he's shown to have had success.

Sheppard-JT-Couture
Gomez-Marleau-Pavelski
Clowe-Handzus-Wingels
Gali-Burish-Havlat.

Hmm might work.

It's not so much Burns, but just scratching Murray and playing Demers. Demers helps a lot on the transition.

As bad as murray is, the ripple effect on defensive deployment is a big part of the change burns brings.

without him in we tend to pair vlasic-stuart which is simply unable to move the puck. braun can move the puck competently. so you lose the PMD-on-all-pairs look without burns, and instead create a pairing that is as bad at moving the puck as murray.

This strategy of getting pucks to the point and blasting it on net is pointless. It is getting blocked (if not going wide) over half the time.

Try out some different plays.

havlat has not had success there though. he has only had success in the top 6.

Not if you go

Irwin - Boyle
Vlasic - Braun
Stuart - Demers

Because the D hold onto the puck way too long instead of getting it off their sticks. The Sharks work best below the dots and behind the net..they need to work for scoring chances off of those plays more often.

Won't happen. That's just not a deployment they use. for whatever reason.
Probably because stuart needs to be in the top 4.

I'm not saying they will, I'm just saying they could. My point is that the problem isn't so much getting Burns back, but just scratching Murray and playing Demers and Braun on a consistent basis.

If Stuart needs to be in the Top-4, then go

Vlasic - Boyle
Stuart - Demers
Irwin - Braun

That's a line-up that's not out of the question considering the first two pairs have been used already.

I'm gonna say adding burns back to the roster playing well is potentially more impactful than getting murray out of the lineup. perhaps even in a self-reinforcing way, in that burns back in the lineup increases the chances murray gets scratched. the only game murray sat was a game burns played.

If Burns comes back healthier than I am all for it. He hasn't looked healthy at all this year. I agree its a big hole because he can do it all but the big dilemma is do you want to risk it? The Sharks are in a tough spot.

I agree, it sucks the big one. But it also could explain why DW is not panicking just yet. Last season he panicked and it blew up in his face.

Unaware of what his coach would later say, this was #SJShark Thornton's view of that 2-on-1: "It’s going to happen. I’m a passer.

****ing Thornton. Everyone and their mother knows that, so shoot the ****ing puck.

Handzus has (probably predictably) crashed down to earth.

Sheppard obviously deserves the spot. Wingels is trending upwards. Galiardi no doubt has the talent to hold down a third-line spot (and more). You also get speed, strength, and two-way play with that line.

You don't know which T.J. is going to show up night in and night out. Handzus played pretty well tonight and you know what you're going to get. T.J. has the talent to be a third line winger but he has to be more consistent. The Sheppard line tonight was very up and down..while the Zus line was pretty solid.

Agreed. A Galiardi-Sheppard-Wingels line could do damage. All three have shown significant offensive ability, especially lately, and Sheppard and Wingels in particular have shown strong possession ability. All three are above average skaters. I'd be completely in favor. Personally, I'd say both of Sheppard and Galiardi have shown me that they deserve to have a stint in the top-6.

The bigger question is, was Clowe demoted to the '3rd line' or the '4th line'. Because I'd say the Sheppard-Galiardi line deserved to be called the 3rd line, plus any line with both Handzus and Kennedy on it should be nothing more than a 4th line.

What did the coach say later?

Just that the biggest reason we lost was because of failure to execute on 2-on-1's.

Havlat skating like its an open skate at Sharks ice didn't help at all.
He should have took it himself then instead of waiting and forcing a pass to him and come out looking like a ****ing idiot. When you're a player of his caliber, you absolutely have to do something better than what he did there. I cant imagine any other top player in the league pulling that ****.
