He didn't scrimmage.

Based on what I saw of him at captains skate & very early training camp I'm not sure how much he'll play this season. His skating was a huge asset, doesn't look like it is anymore.

Hopefully it's just him being cautious and more time will help but I don't have high hopes for him.

Bummer.

Some notes from watching the scrimmage:

- Donksoi was definitely a standout. Wasn't really tracking how good he was defensively but great offensive skills. Seemed to always be in the middle of the action.

- Roy. Moved the puck well. Shifty. Great in offensive zone. Generated several good chances. Straight line speed is slow though and defensive coverage was poor. Potential is there though but at least a year or two away. Very likely could be a Boyle 2.0.

- Goldobin. Didn't have tons of opportunities. When he has the puck, he is great. Lots of confidence, good passing and stick handling. Defensively he was ok. Seemed improved. But what concerns me is his ineffectiveness offensively without puck. Never seemed to be going to right spot. Always looked lost. Never went to front of net or in corners. Hopefully something he can learn over time. But I have serious doubts that he could be a regular NHL'er.

- Marleau. Nice breakaway goal. Seems to have his speed back.

- Hertl. Was ok. Nothing special. Appears thinner though. Lost some weight.

- Nieto. Looks like he put on some muscle. Had a good jump going and was playing pretty aggressively. Not afraid to go to the net and scoring areas. Really think he is going to have a much better year this season.

- Thornton, Pavelski, Couture. All very solid as expected.

- Timo looked ok. Nothing special. But didn't look out of place.

My guess is that Torres might be #13th forward.

Brown might be replaced by a better Goldobin, Donskoi or even Tierney.

Lines and pairs were changing from shift to shift.

One shift Thornton-Pavelski might have Hertl on the wing; next time they were out it was Donskoi, and then Meier, etc.

3x3 was nominally two F and 1 D.

Did everyone board the plane to BC or did they release anyone before they left?

Sharks coach Peter DeBoer has been careful not to mention many individual players by name in his public comments through the first three days of training camp. But there was one slight exception made for winger Joonas Donskoi on Sunday.

The Finnish-born Donskoi continued his strong month as he scored a goal around the net in the first of two 25-minute periods, then added another in a seven-minute 3-on-3 overtime session as San Jose held an intrasquad scrimmage at Sharks Ice.

"He looked good today. He's had a good start, and I think he's caught our attention," DeBoer said. "We have a long way to go before opening night ... but he's definitely grabbed our attention."

Haven't seen any news.

My ***guess*** is that the 10 "clinic" players are staying in SJ. (Mainly the AHLers, and a couple of TOs.) Which would be ~45 heading to BC.

There will be cuts for AHL camp start probably after return, circa Wednesday. And first waiver folks in a week, next Sunday.

God damn I am so pumped. This felt like the longest offseason ever. I had to endure baseball for about 5 months :(

The Warriors' run was a good distraction though.
