Confirmed with Link: Sharks trade Eklund, Halttunen and Svoboda to Ottawa for 9th overall.

I thought moving Eklund to draft Stenberg #2 overall is bad asset management, because IDK that Stenberg is going to be that much better than Eklund. But if you are able to land a Smits at #9 I guess I can see the vision.

Stenberg + Smits > Eklund + Reid? I guess if you have all the dmen rated close enough. Or maybe Mike shocks us and takes 2 Dmen, if one of them pans out into a true 1D you are happy TBH.

Halttunen was always going to be competing with Musty and Lund and it seems like those two have been ahead the whole time. Svoboda was always a gamble but Ostapchuk, McKinney, and Bystedt are ahead of him in terms of bottom 6 center jobs.

Losing Eklund hurts but a non elite winger returning a top 10 pick is real interesting work. And if the pick is Stenberg then it's an obvious move to make.

Swapping Eklund for Stenberg for free, then getting Verhoeff or Smits at our original draft position. That's not bad.

It sucks as a fan because Ekky was the only bright spot in our worst season of the rebuild, and he's a competitor. But business is business, he was gone as soon as he signed that contract.

Svoboda and Haltunnen are not going to be impact players. Smits and Verhoeff both profile as middle pair on winners, or top pair in a ceiling case.

This is great shit. Let Grier cook.

Really interesting 9OA is where the Sharks were projected to draft in the first place lol

Edit: Halts and Svoboda are legit prospects with chances at bottom 6 that OTT loves. In terms of value maybe Sharks undersold a bit but there was no room for all these forwards to make the team anyway.

If you look at where Eklund, Halturnen and Svoboda were drafted and developed, I'd argue OTT got better value in the deal today but it really depends on what the 9OA turn into and I like the possibilites for Rudoph/Belchetz more.

Don't like it at all. Eklund is going to hit his stride and the odds of replacing him with 9th are low.

I'm hoping we use this pick to trade for a really solid D man like Byram.
We're replacing him with a future stud in Stenberg. I now want to acquire the most NHL ready dman in Verhoeff, I don't think he slips to 9 though so hope he trades up a few spots

We'll always have Straw Hat Eklund in our hearts.
