You should listen to it. Your takeaway would be much different.

What do you mean?

EDIT: Okay, I'm listening to it and first of all, my takeaway of what was transcribed hasn't changed, so you're still going to have to explain what you mean. However, only about half of the audio is actually transcribed.

Here's a synopsis of the rest:

- Feels he has players with the Barracuda that can have a Guentzel/Sheary/Rust type of impact with the Sharks.
- Mentioned Pavelski as someone who just needed "rest from a long season", so I think we can officially rule out a major injury for him.
- Says he expects a dominant year next year from Couture and Hertl.
- Alluded to some people from Stanford who do some sort of secret work (probably analytics). Wasn't super clear.
- Praised all the ex-Sharks in the org (Sundstrom, Nabby, Ricci, Marchment).
- Feels we'll get a good player at 19th overall "if we remain there". Comments that this may not be a high-end draft, but that it's deep in the first round. Alludes to the gap between our 1st and our next pick; my impression is that DW will seriously consider moving down to acquire more picks.
- Lists a dozen guys who we got as undrafted UFAs as successes.
- Agrees with the suggestion that this may be a forward-heavy draft (which I honestly have not heard anywhere until now). Mentions that it's good we have puck-movers like Jeremy Roy (whom he expects to come back healthy) in the system. Mentions Ryan, Heed, Simek, and Mueller by name as well. Does not name Bergman.
- Asked if re-signing vs. letting go of Thornton and Marleau may be more than a hockey decision; in terms of marketing, etc. Kind of hedges his answer but re-iterates that we're under a cap system but that whatever happens he has a ton of respect for them and what they've done for the franchise and that it'll be a tough decision and "we'll see", that sort of stuff.
- Thinks Vegas can be good.

It doesn't sound like they are re-signing.

It doesn't sound like they are re-signing.

I read it more as a negotiating tactic. DW should re-sign them but if the team is going to be competitive we need to get good deals.

Also, I have a feeling Braun might be traded. Would make a lot of sense, though only if we can get a hockey trade that makes the team better. I don't see us tanking just yet, if ever due to our hockey market.

Looking at Instagram, Couture seems to hang out with Goodrow and Tierney a lot. So now we know who's getting traded.

I think DW will do his best to sign them to reasonable deals if they make sense, but has a contingency plan in place.

Either way I wouldn't read into the comments on 19 and 12 form that interview. It was just a bunch of Dougspeak.

Isn't today a big day to protect players from the expansion draft? Haven't heard much Sharks news lately so anything exciting happening?

Protection lists due today. (Made public tomorrow)

Unless the Sharks NEED to worry about a guy they can't protect, nothing will happen today. (Unless they get a guy from another team that wants something for a guy rather than just lose him to VGK and/or flipped to another team.) Trade freeze today through Wednesday.

FC trades (for flipping/protecting) won't be announced until after VGK expansion draft roster announced on Wednesday.

So 2 trades today so far before the freeze.

Coyotes trade smith to calgary for johnson, hickey and a 3rd.

Montreal traded beaulieu to buffalo for a 3rd.
