I think elite prospects kinda has a thing set up for the 3rd one but nobody has really added to them. It's on the individual player page.

Yeah I was scrolling through some of the more recent prospects like Power, Wright, etc. and I don't see anything posted there. I wonder if it's because no one has posted anything or if they don't have a good review system and just haven't published anything.

I’ve watched Laroque a few times over the past couple weeks and I think he looks like a future NHLer. He’s not dynamic enough to be a top pairing defenseman and his skating isn’t going to be high-end in the NHL, but he definitely has an NHL vibe about him, if he could become a good two-way #5 in the NHL that would be a huge win and I think he’s definitely got it in him.

Yeah I got a similar vibe from him. Enough offense that I think he's above a replacement level defenseman but not enough to really be a top 4. I like his compete though, and he seems to be taking on all the responsibility from his team to be that every situation defenseman.

You watch anyone else recently?

Bedard… who somehow always has terrible games when I watch. Logan Stankoven is a menace, no way he should have fallen out of the first round. Bordeleau… I know he has the numbers but I’m starting to think he’ll be a straight up bust. I’ve literally never seen anything that impressed me about him. Hope I’m wrong.

Thing about Bordeleau is that he has had the worst luck ever with not making to World Juniors both years even though being selected to play that 2C role... I think that would have really fired him up.
I have hope for him even though he is pretty basic, but he is a center so that's good for the Sharks. We don't have really exciting natural centers coming up. Eklund has played center now, but I think he's still a winger next year. Best case scenario Eklund becomes good center, that would really help our team going forward.

When I watched him during his freshman year I came away really impressed, but I haven't seen much of him this year besides a game in the fall.

Really tried to watch Laroque tonight, but they're playing 3 games in 3 nights, their goalie is also playing all three games, and they're playing Stankoven's team, so it's just a constant game of them being hemmed in their zone.

Going to watch Gaudreau instead

Gaudreau went 26/28 in a 6-2 win for Sarnia. He looked solid. He has a lot of quickness and gets great lateral pushes. He has a tendency to drop down very quick and expose the top half of the net. Back in like 2011 when Luongo was on his game he would do a similar thing, he was always falling forward trying to make saves, and the top got exposed on him. He reminds me of that a bit. He looks really comfortable back there though, and that jives with the other games I've watched of him. He also makes some just highlight reel saves at this level. I'll clip one when the replay is available.

Mostly came away being more impressed with Will Cuylle that the Rangers picked up. He's slick looking.

This was from a few weeks ago but Eklund had this great assist at 2:39 in this video. A tad lucky to score with how it worked out with the goalie coming out but that's just amazing vision. To flip it back in the zone with the defenders coming out, chef's kiss. If he can develop his shooting (and his will to actually shoot) then he will become an animal in the NHL with his vision.

So Eklund has 0 goals in 25 games this season, Wiesblatt can't even score a point per game as a 20 year old in junior hockey and now people are reporting Bordeleau looks like a bust. All hail our lord and savior Doug Wilson Jr.

Please, tell me who we should have picked between where we got Bordeleau and where we took Robbins in the late 2nd that is doing better than Bordeleau. I’m not a huge fan of him after a few viewings, but I’m only watching a couple games a year and his numbers are strong.

All three picks were/are fine. I just take issue with the blindly optimistic takes that suggest we're getting four or five NHL forwards out of the last two drafts. If Eklund hits as a second line Clayton Keller type winger and we get one additional top nine forward out of the last 2-3 drafts that's a success but it's not some vast improvement over the Tim Burke era and most importantly it's not nearly enough to drag the current NHL roster into contention.

The draft is and always will be a crap shoot. You scout, you hope your draft and development pans out but it isn't always a sure fire hit every time. The Sharks are slowly getting better prospects. Unfortunately its probably going to take a few top 10 draft picks before we see any of the results you desire.

Another time where you say blind optimism yet in other posts you play the victim when you get called out for blind pessimism

So now Eklund is at best a second line winger and nothing else in the cupboards?

It's not blind pessimism when it's rooted in how the prospects are actually performing. I don't know how anyone can be happy with the seasons Eklund, Wiesblatt or Bordeleau are currently having.

You mean Bordeleau who is a PPG, Wiesblatt who is on an absolute shit team with no one else having any sort of NHL potential and despite that is almost a PPG, or Eklund who was talked about as a potential first overall pick and has improved his PPG production this year despite his season being one of the most stop and start that’s ever happened?
