At least he played in close to a third of his seasons with SJ. Dany played in 2 of 13 in SJ.

I mean, a couple of those teams have obvious bad vibes, and he had the most success in San Jose of the other two, including the most playoff runs. Pretty deep ones too, both final 4 appearances.
Eh. He wasn't the same Dany considering he was playing with the best passer of his generation. He was good, but not close to what he was in Ottawa. He was also pretty cooked after his SJ run. It's also weird Dany didn't attend Alfie's Jersey retirement in Ottawa.
He also wasn't all that good in his playoff runs if I remember correctly. But I guess if you're celebrating Thornton's heyday then it makes sense. Boucher is another weird one for me. Every time he shows up I always think, "oh yeah! He WAS a Shark for a minute."

This is revisionism. If he was the same Heatley he never would have ended up in SJ. He did go PPG in the first season and scored 13 in 14 playoff games. He was part of the Burger/HTML line which is one of the memorable lines in Sharks history. That line went to the Olympics that year and won Gold.
In the 2nd season he ended up on the 2nd line with Logan and scored 64 in 80 regular season, 8 in 18 playoffs.

Assuming guys had to pay their own way, Boucher, Demers and Scott have tv/podcast deals they may be able to write off the trip and get some grist for their next 'cast.
Mayer didn't come from St Louis (on Sharks plane one way).

While we're on the topic, many of the alumni don't make sense. But, at the same time, the Sharks were a little limited in their options:
1) Active players can't come (no Burns, Hertl)
2) You probably want to bias the slate for people who played with Thornton. For example, Nolan and Ricci stood out a little
3) There are those like Sturm, Stuart, Michalek, Friesen, and Greiss who might have negative feelings
Then you have the players where it would still be weird. Vincent Damphousse and Mike Vernon are more "Sharks" in my mind than Dany Heatley, but they are much more part of other teams...
I will say that it's odd that Rathje didn't show up...

Are the Nolan, Ricci, and Pederson the only guys who didn't play with Thornton who were a part of this? Nolan makes sense as a Sharks legend (who's stayed close enough to the team), and Ricci obviously has continued to be involved. So it doesn't surprise me that a guy like Rathje wouldn't be part of this.
The real question, then, is what about Tom Pederson: how the heck did he get invited to play in this?!

Pederson I figured got it because he was a career Shark (the vast majority, if not all, of his games came with the Sharks). Then, he was technically a Sharks from day one and on the roster by season 2. I'm sure the Sharks would love to have someone from that inaugural season, but either no one really fits the bill or they left under bad circumstances.
