I will never understand the way that diving gets called. The penalty should be one or the other, not the dive and the trip/hook/hold/whatever at the same time.
Yeah something needs to change, players know that the majority of the time the dive will not be called so they fall at the first touch of a stick or glove. And even if they do get called for it, they know it is just a 4 on 4 situation.

Canada didn't deserve to win this. They've been a gong show since the opening game. Hopefully this leads to a long hard look at Hockey Canada's braintrust and how they construct and run their teams.

But knowing Hockey Canada they'll probably just chalk it up to the players not playing hard enough and keep soldiering on with their braindead outdated construction model like htey always have. Because hey, it works sometimes when the team's innate talent can overcome the handicap so it must be fine.

So I'm still kinda baffled Canada didn't practice today. Or after NYE. Or after Latvia's upset. Among other things. Canada's selection method is f***ed and Cameron is bad but wowza this doesn't help.

If that is kneeing then there will be no more body checks
seriously - what was Gibson supposed to do? Didn't change lane or angle, lead with shoulder, elbows in. That the opponent twisted last second to dodge shoulder contact, but not move his legs, is not on Gibson.

I don't hate that Canada lost, but i feel bad for that kid. Not his fault at all

I agreed the first knee was 5, his knee was actually outside of his body stance. But that 2nd one wasn't, especially after allowing a check from behind and elbow on the same hit go a few seconds earlier.

Narrator: he's not.

He's been sliding down the lineup all tournament and also got demoted from PP1 to PP2. His shot is great but has been scouted. I don't even know has he gotten a shot on goal on even strength.

He has a long way to go to make the NHL, in my opinion. Looking just okay. For some reason he can't seem to connect a pass or make the right play with the puck, I don't know if it's an IQ issue or not.

He's a big player and needs to utilize his size more, make it more of an advantage. And skate, skate, skate.

Seeing Sam Dickinson on the world stage makes me nervous about the Sharks D future. He is still young so there is that, but his decision making must be better if he wants to have a long career in the NHL.
That's right, Sam will have to greatly improve his skills and understanding of the game in order to become a top-4 defender. And definitely not attacking for PP. Statistics in the OHL are very deceptive

Dickinson being torn apart by people on the prospects board. It sounds like his confidence was shot and he’s not being allowed to play his game. When you’re overthinking everything you’re going to look like you’re processing the game slowly. He’s still a kid, so it all makes sense BUT…

This is why we desperately need more defensive prospects. can’t rely on one guy to be our savior.

There's an 18 year old defenseman every other year that has a bad tournament which means next to nothing. Lack of production from forwards does tend to mean something, defensemen is far less reliable.

I mean as some one who is just following it here and catching a few highlight, he went from bottom pairing Dman to top pairing because of injury to their best player, that's a big transition with no preparation. The team was already poorly constructed and coached, and it seems like he's getting shit on extra hard? Or was he really that bad?

Today's 32 Thoughts podcast had long discussion (15+ minutes at start) on why Canada had a dismal WJC. Major hate on for players selected (vs who wasn't), lines, etc. Gave example of OHL tweeting out passed over players accomplishments while WJC QF game going on.

Players almost couldn't succeed in that environment.

Yeah it seems like the whole team is broken. I haven’t watched much but just from what I’ve read. Hard to blame a kid for not performing in a terrible environment.
