Gomez just looks small compared to Pavelski. I would also compare their weight. Gomez is probably the smallest guy on the team.

pavs takes hits a bit better than gomez, but man he gets taken out of the play so easily. I think he is better off as a center in this current setup. going in as a forechecker he is just getting wrecked. one arm pins against the boards and he coughs up the puck. granted he is better at it than anyone in the bottom six + havlat/clowe but i think at this point we are misutilizing him.

wingels/sheppard have a lot to learn about the two way game, i wouldnt attribute much to Gomez's +/-. though he sucks on the back check too. all three of them coast on the back check, and gomez just isnt very strong. sheppard is probably the best defensively of the three. I have high hopes for that third line though.

i would even try to line up like.

couture-jt-burns
marleau-pavs-havlat
wingels-gomez-sheppard
desi-burish-galiardi

but it depends if galiardi keeps showing up, because he could take a third line role as well.

The thing that aggravates me about Gomez is he makes a point of not hitting anyone ever. When he forechecks he lines people up, skates directly at them, gets them against the boards.... then changes his line to avoid them at the last second to avoid contact.

Why?

The forwards with the exception of Wingels, Burish, Desi, Sheppard and Clowe don't consistently body check. They would help themselves if they did because it would wear out the other team.

It almost looks like Gomez wears the old style shoulder pads. He looks like hes not wearing any

190?? I doubt that. I've stood side by side with pavs, and although I'm a couple inches shorter he's certainly not 190. I'd say 180 at best.

I'll also point out that his arms are tiny. Guy has a weird barrel chest, but that's it.

Muscle is more dense than fat so it's very likely that he weighs 190 considering the muscle mass he has. I'm 5' 10" and when I was in the best shape and playing 4 to 5 days a week and working out regularly I weighed 190.

By the eye test, Gomez looks horrible. The sharks don't need a pass-first turnover prone soft and defensively irresponsible 3rd line center. He's also terrible as a 2nd unit pp center.

Sadly, the sharks are so shallow he looks not that bad.
