Down 2-0 means he might be out and available for the playoffs if the Kraken don’t completely choke.

Why does he have so many haters? Is it just salty Montreal fans? It seems such a weird stance to hate on a teenager.
I'm not sure it is all just Montreal haters.

I think being an CHL exceptional status prospect with huge expectations puts a spotlight on Wright.

When you take into account what Windsor gave up to acquire Wright, expectations are obviously going to be quite high. A lot of fans probably had unrealistic expectations, which probably isn't really fair to Wright, but it is an expected reality in sports.

The prospects thread is pretty toxic. Part of me thinks him getting out of Canada and away from the hype/toxicity to Coachella/Seattle to develop his game might be the best thing for him long term

I think all that talk about him at age 15 wasn't good for him and what people thought he would be.

I agree it's going to be good for him to be away from the canadian media doing his thing/building his career in Seattle.

Overall I thought he was solid but nothing spectacular during this OHL run and that's something I'm not too surprised about.

I think he's a solid 200 feet center that will need scoring/play driving wingers on his side to activate his offense and the pretty good shot he's got.

The good thing for us(and him) is that he doesn't have to be "the guy" or "franchise player" for us given that we've gut Beniers as well.

So a solid 2nd line center/future Wennberg replacement?

I started calling Shane Wright "Wennberg with a shot" a year ago, long before the draft.

It's not meant to be an insult, though I suppose the people who thought he was Bergeron might interpret it that way. He's just instinctually cautious. And Wennberg is often underrated, people don't get how good he is reading ahead of the play and cutting off pucks in the neutral zone. And if he had a great shot and picked up another 20 pts that way, that's a valuable player to have.

I agree with those that think Wright's offense will scale up very well with playmaking talent on his wing. Give him a Gaudreau or Panarin on his wing and I think he'll score like a 1C.

Yeah. I think people expect him to be flashy and dynamic which he just isn't. He is a vanilla player, but high end vanilla, if that makes sense. I think he could thrive with wingers like Eberle. Or even Winterton, if he does make it.

Yeah, he's just not flashy.

The good thing is he doesn't have to be a clear cut #1 center for us thanks to Beniers.
So if he's able to become a good #2C we're set down the middle.

BTW: I think the Coyotes made the right decision to take Cooley over Wright.

Watching Cooley in the Frozen four final four, I think there can be very little question on this. The Kid is special.

Wright is still a great prospect, but ultimately the draft probably went close to how it should have. No regrets. But we may not have got the incredible draft luck that we all thought we had back on draft day.

I think if Wright lives up to 4OA that he’ll end up a better 4OA than most.

Maybe, but there is some steep competition.

Last ten #4 OAs.

Wright
Luke Hughes
Lucas Raymond
Bowen Byram
Brady Tkachuk
Cale Makar
Jesse Puljujarvi
Mitch Marner
Sam Bennet
Seth Jones

That is a crazy good list with the exception of the Oilers pick

We just have to see. He's still a kid. Has to develop and mature some. These things just take time. And with some, it's more time than with others. And with still others, it doesn't happen. We'll know eventually...

I'm in no way criticising the pick and or trying to throw Wright under the bus.

I think he can be a very good #2C and could score a good amount of points if paired with the right(playmaking/playdriving) wingers.

Overall I think the hype at age 15/16 didn't help him at all(as with a lot of those kids) and not because he became arrogant, didn't try anymore or what not.
If you listen to the people around the rink for practise you'll clearly hear of a guy that works his butt off to become better.

It was just too much expectations and like others have said, getting away from that canadian media and doing his thing over here in Seattle might be the best for his career, which should be a good one anyways.

Kinda surprised there hasn't been any word on what is next for Wright yet.

I thought he would be heading to Coachella promptly after Windsor's first round exit.
Given that he already went from Seattle to Coachella, back to Seattle, to the WJC, then to Windsor this year, maybe they are giving him a break? (although some AHL post season experience would be good for him to finish out his year, imo).

Any one hear any info on this front?

He has been assigned to Coachella already. And Coachella also signed Goyette to a PTO right after the Kraken signed him to his ELC.

ahhh, there it is. I guess I was just early and I didn't actually miss it. Thank you for the update.

Gotta think this season has been hard on him, but it finally feels like Wright is now where he should be along his development path.

Ya that's pretty much how I see it too. He got a lot of early hype and so some people expect instant success but they need to realize most prospects take several years to be NHL ready. Guys like Beniers are special and unusual. In 3 years I think people will change their minds on Wright and be quite happy.

Cooley might be "special" but we only get to complain about players drafted AFTER Wright. If Gauthier or Jirichek, Savoie etc. turn out to be better then and only then you can say they made a mistake.
I still think Wright will be just fine.
