Prospect Info: Shane Wright (Round 1, Pick #4, 2022 draft)

He’ll always have haters, simply because he displayed for a brief moment at the draft what so many ask for, a bit of personality and fire.
It’s ridiculous that there are fans, and not just in Montreal, that are actively hoping for Wright to bust. In an ideal universe he lights up Montreal, New Jersey, and Arizona for the duration of his career and goes first in any redraft.

That has nothing to do with it.

Habs passed on Wright, so the fans rationalize their disappointment by disliking Wright. Happens every year - see Rangers fans rooting against Jack Hughes - and has little to do with the stare.

I’d disagree. The stare was vilified on the main boards, and not just by Habs fans. Wright was derided as an angry and entitled brat, and many openly stated they hoped he’d bust.

Not a good time with Beniers also possibly injured, but word is trickling out now that Wright just got injured.

"Shane Wright is Considered 'Out Indefinitely with a lower body injury'"....

Well crap
Why are hockey injuries so vague when reported? Lower body injury could mean absolutely anything from an ACL to leg cramp.

At least in other sports you have a rough idea of what it is.

I'm really glad the NHL does it this way. They are protecting patient privacy. I think it shouldn't be legal to offer more information, and HIPAA would indicate it isn't, so other sports need to get their act together.

This will change. The NHL will inevitably buckle to pressure from the myriad gambling sites and provide more specific information. It’s just a matter of time.

They used to be vague to protect the players. Especially during the playoffs. They probably still are.

If other teams knew where a player was injured, they would target that area with a slash, hit or punch.

Announcers used to joke when it was labelled "lower body injury" - " it is probably a hand injury".

The league started to make teams tell the truth about lower vs upper body.... I want to say in the 90s.

Hockey was an extra brutal sport back in the day.

I figured that was the case, was just surprised. I'm probably just so used to the NFL where everything is reported and you get hammered for not or soccer. With the NFL being so violent the injury report is a mash unit by near the end of season. Feel like you generally find HIPPA doesn't seem to apply to most pro sports when the media are involved/sports gambling.

I do notice college sports and minor league/junior is more like the NHL with vagueness on injuries. You generally don't hear much unless they are done for the year.

Hadn't heard much about him recently other than he had score 3 against his old team last week.

He’s been back with the Windsor Spitfires since 2/23/2023, and had 0G 2A in his game yesterday. On the season Wright has 12GP and 21 points.

Had a hat trick last night. Now up to 27 points (12 goals) ins 14 games. Let's hope he can keep it up.
Yep. I know it may mean nothing from the perspective of producing in the pros but he is doing exactly what we want him to do in juniors. Dominate. Score and develop confidence there to be more than just a safe player at the NHL level.
