I’m starting to see why this guy fell in the draft. 3 teams passed on him and apparently if Seattle passed, Philadelphia and Columbus were going to pass too. I forget where I read that but I saw that around the time of the draft

You're not seeing that. You're imagining it. The whole thing is a work of fiction in your head.

Are you? Are you seeing that? So the kid's trash. Absolute rubbish. Total draft mistake. Might as well trade him away now. No future.
Damn what do some people want from these kids? Show me the list of players drafted at his age tearing up the league? All the eligibles are going back as they should. The level of expectation here is absurd.

The team obviously sends him back before his first year kicks in (as most teams do). You let him dominate in junior. Play in the World's probably. Comes back up at the end of the year for a few games and NEXT year he plays with Seattle.
He would also be eligible, in theory, for the AHL next year having played four seasons in the O, if he is not ready for Seattle next year. The only caveat being that one of those seasons was cancelled so I assume they would still count it, but not 100% sure.

It's hard to compare anybody who has played 5 games with an average TOI of 6:30 to a list of guys with 107-474 games played in the NHL who all happen to be in the same spot on the depth chart as the kid. We all thought Seattle was the best place for him at first... though I'm not sure about that anymore.
Winning now should be the absolute last priority for the Kraken. Wright should be getting top 9 minutes or be in juniors.

Nothing else makes sense.

Not sure if he's really eligable next season for the AHL since there was NO 20-21 OHL season.

Believe what you want, I saw someone post that. Not one of the big reporters but someone…

The answer to this kid developing is to move Gourde to the wing, move Tanev to the 4th. Scratch 2 others.

You’ll have

Schwartz-Beniers-Eberle
Burakovsky-Wennberg-Bjorkstrand
McCann-Wright-Gourde
Kuhlman-Geekie-Tanev

This doesn’t look like a bad plan to me. Wright playing between two 4th line guys does though.

Trade Wennberg play Wright I feel like he just needs minutes he’s show flashes of good play just like Wennberg and it only get Shane more confident I don’t know maybe that’s a crazy idea

According to Sean McIndoe of the Athletic it seems like Francis is the reason why Wright's staying with the team and not down in the OHL.

That future would seem to rest largely on rookies Matty Beniers and Shane Wright, and the results so far this year have been decidedly mixed. Beniers looks fantastic, at least in the offensive zone, with four goals and eight points through 10 games in a top-six role. Wright has just a single assist on the year, but the more confusing story is his usage – he’s been a healthy scratch on multiple occasions, and is barely playing when he does dress. You’d assume that means that he’ll head back to junior, but some reports out of Seattle have suggested that Francis doesn’t want that. If so, he might want to mention that to coach Dave Hakstol, because something’s out of synch here.

Getting rid of Wennberg just for the sake of wright getting more ice time is a dumb idea.
It’s not just that you also got geekie coming up playing well at center. I think it’s not a bad idea or time to trade him with his contract teams are alway looking for centers but I know it won’t happen for a while. I hope Ownership isn’t forcing Ron’s hands saying we need to win now. That can ruin things look at the Canucks. As for Shane it seems the organization doesn’t know what they want to do. But I know for sure unless something crazy happens that he’s going to be playing big minutes for Canada in the world jrs I hopper Jagger/ can make the team

I don't believe Francis would get much for Wennberg right now with his current contract, as he is ideally a 3rd line center on most teams around the league, and he won't fit into most teams cap structures.

That said, while not posting big numbers, he has been great, logging a ton of tough minutes this year in Seattle.

I think he is more valuable to Seattle than to most other teams, with the way this team is built.

Seattle doesn't have a legitimate, dangerous top six, but they have a strong top nine rolling three lines, and Wennberg is a big part of that. If you replace him with wright, there will be a giant hole in the teams defensive game that is already a weak spot imo.

I don't think you understand how good Wennberg is. He's not a scorer but he's great at what he does.

I'm also not sure why we would trade Wennberg now, especially since his line is driving play at an incredible rate and creating more chances than any other line we have.

I also agree in that we probably wouldn't get all that much in return and that wouldn't make much sense.

Looking at trades:
I know many folks will cry foul but I think the center that might go during the season could be Yanni Gourde.
He's a valuable piece for a contending team that has proven to be effective during a playoff run and given his age probably won't be around when this team's actually good.

Of course, the only way that happens is if we're out of the playoff picture come TDL or if Wright performs well enough to make this a possibility.

BTW: Talking about Wright again, here's a take by Emerald City Hockey.

I get what they're saying and I also get Hakstol trying to play the best lineup to win now.
Though, at some point Francis needs to make a decision and either send Wright back to the OHL or find a way that his coach plays the kid, IMO.

why the hell would we get rid of Gourde. Absolutely not. He can play all 3 spots. Its not worth making us weaker at center just for the sake of more ice time for Wright. Seattle can put gourde on the wing and put wright on 3C while still having geekie as 4C.

You move Gourde to Wing then. We aren't getting rid of wennberg... Don't mess with anything that isn't broken..
