Proposal: Shane Pinto, Drake Batherson for Mason McTavish & Troy Terry

Every time I see the Ducks dumping cap as a positive on a trade thread it makes me chuckle. The Ducks have the 3rd most cap in the league, and another like 17 mil coming off the books this offseason that they wont retain.

They will have to spend just to get over the cap floor next year.

I think you mean, third most cap “space”, not third most cap.

Batherson is over a ppg player and an outstanding contract. Mctavish is a struggling prospect. Sens say no and hang up the phone

Didn’t notice either of Ducks players during last nights game, Batherson had a hat trick and an assist vs the Ducks last night.
Batherson points equals Terry’s and McTavish’s added together this year.

The two teams played a dozen day ago, Terry was the most impactful play driver on either side, had three points and Anaheim won, hockey is like that sometimes. That was the Ducks worst overall effort of the year last night and no one showed in nearly their best light.

Not trying to suggest Batherson is a product of his surroundings by any means, but he has other first line talent around him and wouldn't produce the same rate he does now if you stuck him in Terry's shoes as the primary driver on a makeshift top line with Vatrano and Ryan Strome. Terry is forced to be the Ducks top forward by default because no one is developed to his level yet, Batherson hasn't been forced to show what he could do in that role. They are both first line caliber RW

Ducks and Sens are my two teams, I realize contracts/age and other factors play into trade value - but in my opinion Troy Terry stands alone as the best play driver of these four guys. The gap between him and Batherson may not be as much as their contracts reflect but the Ducks should prefer to keep the better player.

Generally speaking, if the Ducks are deciding to try and press the accelerator by tabling a young piece like McTavish - they should be putting together a package deal for the next true star who becomes available for whatever reason.

He's the Ducks best forward, signed long term and they've been bad plenty long enough already, realistically he's just not for sale.

I think it's clear MacTavish upside is more valuable right now.

As of right now, Pinto's value has completely tanked, that's why you don't trade him now. McTavish's value is also probably far from being at its best.

However's Pinto sudden value tanking make this a lot more interesting if you have good faith in McTavish

Too many unknowns.

If Leo breaks out with 90 points and Gauthier gets 40 goals I think you do everything you can to get them locked up longterm.

Youre right though. Its possible they all get bridge deals and kick the can down the road a couple years.

I mean, if both are high or low, MacTavish is still ahead quite clearly. Pinto might end up the best player, weirder things have happened... but there's no real debate as far as the most valuable piece.
