Confirmed with Link: Shane Doan named Special Advisor to the General Manager

I guess that's the angle. Don't see any other reason. Leafs can use their money for stuff like this. Don't mind when they do.
 
This is next level genius… watched the earlier video with Matthew Knies and Josh Doan, found out they’ve literally played on the same line for many years together.

That means, basically, Shane Doan knows Matthew Knies almost as another son on the ice… this has to be connected to getting Auston to sign here… and Knies too.

Shane could literally convince Auston to aim at playing his whole career here in Toronto, like he did, because, then Matthews could go work and live anywhere in the World he wants.

After a quick 8 years here in Toronto… Auston would be King.

Do you know anything about Doan's credentials at all?
He's not hired in Toronto just to massage Matthew's scalp... I mean ego...
What a ridiculous notion that the leafs would hire an AGM because he was one of the teams important player's idols & no other reason 🙄

Doans family is heavily involved in Arizona, can't see them moving to the Toronto area.

But then I guess he can do what Shanahan does with his family in NY state and leave the family in AZ and have the company plane fly him up here when needed.

To be the AGM of the team... I already guessed earlier that he'll manage the Marlies in some way, shape or form... I doubt they fire Wickenheiser in charge of player development but I we'll just have to see... one can only guess at this point 👉

Auston lives in AZ during the off season, kind of like how most American players do. Strangely Canadian players playing for US teams with a few exceptions stay in the US...that's a bit off topic though.

Yes, I believe they hired Doan more to try to convince Auston to sign in Toronto at reasonable terms.
If Matthews or his agent thinks that, it could backfire big time........typical stupid decision by Leafs management.

It just doesn't look good in my opinion and I'm pretty sure behind closed doors at Austons agents, they think the same.
