Some previous SC champs have had to come back from 0-2 down at some point. Carolina, 2006. Washington, 2018. Just 2 out of the top of my head. Plus, our own Toronto Raptors had to come back from 0-2 down in the conference final and go on to win a ring. We will see what this team is made off shortly.
Detroit 2002, they lost both home games to Vancouver, and then in game 3 Nick Lidstrom scored from the center ice and the rest was history.

This loss stings a little more today. Can't believe we are heading to FLA down 2-0.

Absolutely enraged by the Barkov goal and the Marner giveaway. Two mistakes that cost us the game ultimately. A goal that Samsonov can just NOT let it and Marner flipping a pass instead of playing safe, simple hockey and getting the puck out. Brutal.

Bobrovsky is playing very well but I wouldn't say we are getting "goalied". Not getting the puck to the net with traffic in front is making him look a lot better than he should.

If we just limit the mistakes that led to goals we win the game 2-1 or 2-0. Same with Game 1.

We have a combination of things going wrong right now even though we are dominating for stretches.

We also hit the post or missed the net on about 10 point blank chances last game. If just a few of those go in we win that game. Execution is obviously important but we are going to start scoring in bunches soon if we keep playing like this. Even early in the game I was amazed it wasn't 3-0 and it didn't feel right coming out of that 1st period with only a 1 goal lead with how dominant we were. It's just seriously unfortunate that a few lousy plays in our own end and one especially horrible goal Samsonov let in cost us a game where we should've had 5 or 6 goals.

That's hilarious. In four seasons there's not even a zero and one somewhere that you can pair together to make a better two-game stretch than the one he just had.

I think we’re getting Cujo’ed a little bit. Which is a slight variation on getting Goalied, but it’s such a consistent theme with these Leafs that there’s something structural going on: when a perceived front runner team starts throwing everything but the kitchen sink at a hot goalie who is playing behind an underdog team collapsing to the slot and protecting those scramble plays just by taking up space, getting guys on the wrong hand or bad body positioning on rebound attempts. I feel like this creates a negative feedback for the attacking team and reinforces an underdog mentality.

We’ve seen it too many times with Korpisalo, Merzlikins, Price and Bob for it to be randomly drawing the goalie card.

When I was coaching, two of my rules for my players to follow were:

1) No back passes in our d-zone.

2) When handling the puck within 5' of our blue line, get it out first, then skate with the puck or distribute it to another teammate.

These so called pros broke my rules that resulted in a goal against. Unforgivable IMHO !!! This is NHL hockey not PEEWEE house league !!!
100%.
Im an Oilers fan and we have a defenceman , Vinnie Deshernais, doing the same stupid plays. He has caused numerous goals now, He will probably be sitiing next game. I played defence as well and a safe play was off the glass. If u ever threw it up the middle in your own end and someone picked it off and scored, that was your last shift for that game

So Bennet gets a 5k fine for the crosscheck on Bunting.

I don't think he deserves any suspension. But neither did Matthews for his crosscheck... and he got 2 games.

I don't think either warranted a suspension. I'm just frustrated at the lack of consistency.

Did I, I duppose I did but let me explain

Why is Nylander throwing a lazy pass allowing the Panthers to close in on him, not to mention he's got nowhere to go other than deeper into the Leafs zone, Matthews is standing still above the goal line and while it's a poor choice where else you going to go. Matthews expended zero energy in trying to corral that puck and watched go to the Panthers. He didn't give chase, Willie was watching in relative safety 20 feet away, Brodie was deep and wondering which of the 3 Ps he was going to take as nobody else seemed interested, other than a feckless wave as Panthers skated by.

It's like they're playing by themselves half the time. This was probably the worst game for Will in 3 years, I guess that hit in the 1st was too much for him. Matthews was better and on a par with Mitch but playing at about 30% effectiveness. It was a shameful way to open a period, they just gave the game away

Frig, I'm so friggin angry at them what a bunch of useless dicks, 12 friggin schmill to play like he could care less, it's not the first time, and it doesn't stop there. I'm serious when I say they need to move him, and Will and throw Brodie in as well they'll never win with guys who only care about the paycheque, but then I guess, they at least care about something!

I thought last night was no less embarrassing then when Boston slapped them around back in 68 10-0 then 7-0 in the Boston Garden. At least Jim Dorey lost his mind and took on a bunch of Bruins and pummeled a few of them.

NO SUCH PRIDE LAST NIGHT
Dorey was a good Leaf!!!

Maurice said pretty much the exact opposite. His team is tired and needs a break.
Of course he did. What is he supposed to say??

It's so funny how the narrative has always been when you're on a roll, you don't want any prolonged breaks, yet now that FLA is in the drivers seat the Sportsnet panel, Maurice, and widespread logic is that this will favor the cats. Bob has played his 5 best games of the past 2 seasons in succession, and Maurice thinks playing 1 game in the next 5 days will be good for him to keep that going? Not sure I buy it.

Sure his team might find a bit more jump with the rest, but so will we. But lets not kid ourselves, Bob is realistically the only reason they have a 2-0 lead.

The entire Sportsnet panel was preaching the exact opposite narrative last week when we were up 3-1 against the bolts and had a 2 day break in between games 4 and 5. The overwhelming sentiment at that point was that it worked in the Bolts favor. Which it ended up doing. Not sure why that would change a week later.

Time will ultimately tell what ends up happening. I just think if we can win on Sunday, the outlook of this series is completely altered. It will stop the cats right in their tracks. They are far from the juggernaut that some are making them out to be. They should not be feeling comfortable with a 2-0 lead, and we sure as f*** shouldn't think this series is over.

I would hope you are not comparing this Leafs team to that Wings team. That team had 8 HOF players.

Toronto is putting up quality shots and chances to score, especially in period 3, but Toronto needs to get back too bodies in front and deflections goals. Seems like right now with Bob, if he can see it, he's going to save it.

The bottom line is your goalie cant have a 4 goals against average in the playoffs and you expect to win
All good goalies make great saves and sammy does that but its the softies that kill you.
Any high school goalie would have stopped the second goal.

We got lucky in the first round that vassy played like shit,

Why didn't Bennett get anything for grabbing Knies' head and smashing it to the ice? That's worse than the crosscheck to Bunting's neck. And why didn't Tkachuk get anything for that flying elbow to Knies' head? I thought the league has been cracking down on head shots. Oh right, it's Parros and it's a Leaf on the receiving end...I bet he rubs his hands anytime a Leaf commits an infraction, and fist pumps every time a Leaf is on the receiving end of something egregious...what a corrupt league.

Nah it's time to play dirty hockey. Put in Simmonds next game and let him take runs at Tkachuk or Barkov, you injure one of ours, we injure one of yours. Enough of soft shit, every other team can take runs and we never retaliate the way other teams would

This is the Stanley Cup for Senators and Habs fans. This is their time of year that they wait all season for, their time to shine. Guys like bert and JimmyApples can barely contain their arousal.
I'm sure those losers have very fulfilling lives.

The mains at this place are a toxic shithole at the best of times anyway. No reason to go near them.

The most embarrassing response is when the players pull the plausible deniability card like “I didn’t see it” in the press conference post game. Like you didn’t sit in a room with an injured rookie and your whole team didn’t get angry? You didn’t ask him what was wrong? You didn’t vow vengeance in the room and play for the kid?

The typical response is going to be “we stick up for each other in this room.” You don’t have to have a WWF war of words. But just a message that this won’t be taken lightly. And back it up.

They have to try to pry Saros out of Nashville or Helle out of Winnipeg. I don’t know. They have to get a legitimate starter. Samsonov would be a great backup to a legit starter.
