That was the joke I was trying to make haha. He was clearly trying to say we were missing Bahl but I tried to play off and say that Okhotiuk was the guy we were missing instead.
A side note, you can’t ever change that avatar because now my brain subconsciously assumes that’s you actually look like that every time I first see it.

You are now Dougie Hamilton in that outfit.

i completely agree, and i think it was more or less virtual stockholm syndrome. We spent so much time waiting on the likes of Tyler Eckford and Brandon Burlon that any prospect with a modicum of promise had their hype amplified 10 times over.

The difference between what Urbom had accomplished by 19 and what Mukhamadullin’s done is vast. Just goes to show how starved the team was of young talent in the early 2010s.
Truth, I mean hell I remember thinking Joseph Blandsi was going to be the second coming of Stephane Richer

I’ll never pretend to know anything about defensemen again after this board (including and especially me) spent years thinking Larsson, Fayne, Merrill, Gelinas, Urbom, and Severson were on the brink of becoming the next legendary group of Devils defensemen.

The thing is that Fayne is the only one of those guys who beat his projection. Everyone else basically was at 70th percentile or worse of what he could become at his peak prospectness. There's nobody there like Andy Greene or Blake Coleman who took several years as a pro to have their game take off.

He's a muslim. Particulary strong family roots and he plays in Salavat Ulaev in the Ufa city. Ufa is a capital of Bashkortostan, where 2/3 are muslims.

Don't see reasons for him to prouve himself in preseason camp, OHL, AHL and etc.
Only one real way for him to NHL is like Kaprizov did. Signature one-way NHL contract.

The cultural difference and not money/ career could become key point with his decision.

You don’t think he’ll play in the AHL because he’s Muslim?

I routinely listen to people of many faiths and some with no cosmological outlook at all that insist to me their core beliefs mandate they skip the AHL and go directly to the NHL or they aren't leaving their place of worship.

Edit: I believe George sang about it: I really want to show you; I really want to show you; I really want to play for you but only in the NHL my lord.....my sweet lord.

Muk hasn’t resigned with his KHL team, Fitz says he’s like coming over next season and he’ll be 20 when he gets here. I could see him perhaps playing in the AHL, but who knows.

There is no “signature one-way NHL contract” available for him, he gets a ELC. He gets the same three year ELC as everyone else. European prospects, particularly Russian ones, often have European Assignment Clauses that allow them to go back their European team if they aren’t playing in NHL. It’s not automatically included in ELCs but sure, he could get one. I don’t know what that has to do with him being Muslim.

And again, his KHL deal runs out on 21-22 so he might be more committed to moving on to NA than this theory assumes.

Traditionally, Russian players who did not go through Canadian juniors do not want to play in the AHL. It wouldn't shock me if Shakir signed an ELC with a European Assignment Clause. It also wouldn't surprise me if they had some sort of hybrid agreement, where Shakir would go back to the KHL after e.g. January 1. That said, culture shock is real and I think people underrate it, and I'm hoping the Devils keep drafting Russians and trying to bring them over.

I would bet on the ELC with the European Assignment Clause, but you never know.

Id assume theyve had conversations with Shakir about coming over and staying with Utica

culture shock is certainly real and cant be felt until youre deep in it

Dude just ignored the fact he’s gonna play 40 mins away from one of the heaviest populated areas of Muslims in the world in NYC, lmfao. On a side note, I’m beyond thrilled what I’ve seeing from Mukhamadullin this year. He’s setting up to be the Graves replacement in 2 years.

Not to beat a dead horse but NJ is right behind NY as far as Muslim population. I would also think that if this was a concern of his it'd be something they'd discuss and give him all this necessary info. It's not like he has to renounce his faith if he comes over.

I would think if he was TRULY that religious he'd have a hard time playing for the Devils anyway... lol

UFAs game tomorrow is on ESPN+ btw if you want to see Mukhamadullin in action.

Edit: Oct 3 at 10 AM eastern

Well he played well the first period until his PP unit gave up a shorthanded goal that was mostly his fault, with a misplayed puck at the blue line leading to a bad pass leading to a misplayed 1 on 2… in any case he looks impressive to me for a 19 year old in the KHL.
