Not a chance in hell you could've convinced me one of the 3 weren't winning Gold here. I figured they all wouldn't medal (might have to play each other) but was positive 1 of them was a GOLD.
Well I mean with the home crowd and MASSIVE additions like Pasta, Zacha and Necas it kinda sorta brings you guys into favourite territory.

What do you have against Russia?
long story short: 45 years of occupying my country, behaving very badly there, many of their hockey players over many years behaving arrogantly and condescendingly at all times (not a recent thing, for example at the ice hockey world championship in Prague in 1985 everyone agreed that something as unpleasant, entitled and arrogant as the Soviet hockey players and their group (hotel, dealing with organizers, etc) they never met before. Really treated us like people from their colony. Today not much better. And the rivalry with them was always huge, because as the occupied country you can only stick it to you occupier in sports. So after they invaded us in 1968, at the immediately following championship (where they were somehow allowed to play), even though the Soviet team was the strongest (and ultimately won the tournament), our Czechoslovak team beat them twice, brought half a million people into the streets of Prague and tons of arrests..

After the fall of communism the rival try became less intense and important, but not that much. And seeing how the country behaves once again, and many of their players supporting events, it does not exactly turn you in their favour. So there is nothing to like and much to dislike.

They are very good and skilled players, and of course that is something I respect immensely.

But then why wouldn't you want them competing so that you could beat them on the ice?

I'm not a big fan of most Russians either but you'd probably behave exactly the same if you were in their position (if you had been the occupier). That's just human psychology. I'm sure people from Prague act arrogant and treat people from smaller cities in Czech Republic the same way.

You think Prague people treat people from smaller Czech cities like an enslaved, occupied people.? Not sure how to react to that.

It’s a lot about the culture itself. For example, most of the Belarus population does not support its government and actions, so nothing non-political comes into it. I see them as simply another Russian victim. I would be OK for them to play in international tournaments. In contrast, there is a lot of support in Russia for this, including a fair few Russian players. I think they need to be shown that actions have consequences and you cannot participate in tournaments in the civilised world while this is ongoing. So no, we should not play them, the way I would not have supported Western nations playing Nazi Germany.

It looked like Sweden didn't respect/fear Czech team like they respected pesky Team Finland, and they seemed to think that this game can be won by plain offense.

I looked at the replays at some of the goals at the IIHF Site and I think (corrrect me if you think I'm wrong) Marcus Pettersson (defender) looked bad in many situations which led to goals.

He got too offensive and could not keep up with the fast Czech forwards counterplays, on yet another I think he was the closest defender when a Czech player could score even though there were many swedes near the goal. (goals 2-5, 3-6, last one was 1-1)
I don't want him in any swedish national team anymore.

Also Sweden got let down by their goalies (let in maybe 2 goals to many) ,didn't save many hard ones . (2-4 for example)

Czechs were better though so I'm not saying this affected the outcome .
Czechs killed sweden with fast counterplays, when they took the puck in their own zone they were super fast to turn the play . Sam Hallam , the coach lost to traditional Czech play - not good, not good on him

Some stats :

Necas +5

Hedman and Karlsson -1 and +0, Dahlin was -3 but he played with Pettersson. (Dahlins miss at 2-3 when he hit a ref with the puck is maybe on him though but an unlucky bounce too)

So I rewatched it too.

Last night was not like any Sweden vs Czech game I have ever seen at any level from U18 to best on best.lol

Normally, at every single level for several decades, the Swedes calmly control the play, give us NOTHING and eventually score on us (usually on a set key play on the PP). Then we open up to tie and they smother the shit out of us and score again. Usually ends 5-0 and they play us to a tee. Nothing to complain about, cleanly outplay us and beat us.

Yesterday was one outnumbered chance after another for us. 2 breakways for goals. several 2 on 1's. Slapshots from the slot after a faceoff.

I've never seen any of that against Sweden.lol The Necas slapper stood out to me because Hedman just stood there and I was shocked. I also didn't really notice Dahlin or Karllson on offence too much. It was all very surprising to be honest and not at all what I expected.

The ref toe for a goal and missed 5 minute major may have had a big impact psychologically.. all I can think of. I think we scored 4 and 3 on 2 different Swedish goalies yesterday.. I don't think that has EVER happened before.lol
