Yea 5 goals on 9 shots. Most likely not sustainable but his line has unfortunately been the best offensively lately. Only one consistently generating chances

His goal today was 90% Brink but it's also not like anyone else is currently finishing. Lot of guys are flubbing their 10% of the load on plays like that.

What does that mean? What did I “demand?” How am I being “babied?” Do you want to give it another shot?

Does Torts owe you and anyone else anything? What about Briere? Why are you so arbitrary in who is accountable in the context of fans and the people who play/manage the game and who is not? Do you operate the way Gauthier has with people you’re in a relationship with? I don’t.

Note we have no idea whether any of this (the first three paragraphs) is accurate because Gauthier hasn’t explained himself.

We got a lot of it from his agent and sources close to him. He didn't personally say it but his camp put it out there. In the NHL with their omerta code, that's akin to him personally saying it.

The Cates line has been the best line since they were put together 15 games ago, struggled their first couple games, since then they've been on fire. Cates is having some puck luck, but also deserved, just missed a goal on his first shot. Brink has really improved his game, he's fearless and is making things happen on a regular basis. Cates is getting confidence he can play offense, he actually has a good wrist shot and had the best hands in terms of puck control (Michkov 2nd best, but much better vision) and keeping possession.

Problem is there's no chemistry on the top two lines, Frost got a lucky goal, he's trying hard but not doing much. Farabee is snakebit, Couts just isn't a good center anymore, Tippett has to have the right fit. TK can't do it alone. Briere will be patient, but at some point he may decide it's not working. Or wait until next year, add Jett and/or find a center, moves Couts to LW and so on.

Michkov is a rookie, like all rookies, they go through stretches where they forget how to play. Right now he's in a funk, no he's not going anywhere and neither is Torts. MM has to learn what TK learned, just b/c you're in a scoring slump, keep your head in the game and help your team win. Turning moleholes into mountains around here. One play that might have got him in trouble was a soft cross ice pass that was almost an odd man breakaway - if you're going to make cross ice passes, fire it, don't leave it out there to be picked off.

Ersson played his best game in a long while.
Question has always been whether he can do this on a consistent basis.

Well, if Dickie Dunn wrote it - you know the rest.

I’m still impressed that a fair number of fellow board members are so supportive of behavior that would never fly in their personal lives. I guess I’m not sure why someone can’t simultaneously have a problem with how this organization is run vis-à-vis the universe of coaching complaints and the so-called rebuild and also think the way Gauthier handled his departure and the whole subject to the present was bogus. Like, I get it: Torts sucks and DB is steering the Titanic. But aligning with Gauthier as though he was some sort of Svengali who had this all figured out is some high comedy.

It's up to the players, as Torts said, he gave Brink shit for two years and Brink finally figured it out and is playing as hard off the puck as with it - and the result is the puck is finding him more often and he's making more plays.

MM will figure this out too, if you're making plays on defense, you're flipping the ice and creating opportunities to make plays on offense. If you half-ass your off puck play, your ice time will decline.

Do you mean Cates had the best hands in terms of puck control tonight? Or, like, in general?

If using the tools at your disposal to change jobs when faced with an employment situation that doesn't work for you doesn't fly in your personal life, I feel sorry for you.

So is Cates actually playing better lately? Or is this just a hot stretch that won’t last for him?
He actually has been producing decent offensive metrics this year, and does look more ‘comfortable’ this season.

Hes got a 5-game goal streak, but only has 7 on the year (2 goals in 27 previous) He’s made a few nice plays (that pass in OT for example), during that time as well, but still only has 6 assists in 32 games.

For me to think he can be a consistent 30+ point player, he’s has to do this for a lot longer.

Such a bad way to run a team

Imagine signing a player to an 8 year, $50m, contract and he has to "have the right fit" to be successful 😂

What the f*** are you babbling about with this personal lives shit? In my professional life if I didn’t want to work for a company then I wouldn’t work there. And I wouldn’t be pressured into changing my mind by a bunch of bozos who think they owned me when they actually didn’t.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Why would anyone here fault anyone else for escaping a horrible work environment? One that broke agreements and cost you pay? If such a thing happened in my personal life, everyone I know would be telling me to get out.

Just because you refuse to believe what Cutter told us via his representatives, doesn't make it false. The problem lies with you hunting for problems, I think. Hence why I'm sure if he did what you wanted, you'd slam him for it too.

Love the way how some people still find ways to complain after a win. So Philly.

They got outplayed by Anaheim and got bailed by their goalie (the good version of Ersson still exists in there somewhere! Huzzah!). If seeing the team have serious success beyond meaningless regular season wins is your goal, then that's ominous. It's ok to face facts.

Like, in general. He's really good at coming out of a crowd with the puck. He's getting better at holding the puck and patiently looking for a teammate. But his strongest attribute is winning puck battles with good stick work, while stronger, he's not going to knock people over.

To give Frost credit where credit is due, he's playing a more aggressive game, there just seems to be no real chemistry between him and linemates right now, whether that's Frost or Michkov being in a funk . . . it's a problem on both top six lines.
