Finland feels like that kind of team that always seems to do better when they face Sweden, which scares me a bit. I sure hope we'll stay away from dumb penalties. If we beat the US by playing one man less which felt like the entire game we can sure beat Finland as well, but unfortunately I think Finland will beat us this time.

your point is interesting, this will be a factor, both sides step up. I think in this tournament all sides have stepped up vs Finland, atmosphere helps you turn on. Then in quiet stadia, you go cold (Czech Republic), just like USA in the last basketball world championships, the Finnish fans turned the US team on with the atmosphere and we got pummeled.
In adults, Finland has never beaten Sweden at Hartwall Arena, closest is World Cup 4-4.
The game that never happened, 5-6, if it happened at all - which is debatable, no such records exist in Finland of this game ever taking place, would have happened at Hartwall.

Will be game of the tournament, here's hoping we live up to the billing. Sweden to get emotional, messy game, 5-6 or 4-5 or similar to one or the other.

Haha i remeber that game ;)! and i also remeber a neighbour throwing out his TV from 4th floor:laugh: and myself was just a little kid at that time but i was furious.

It is the best:D but we do like echoter:nod:

Sweden's defense, discplicine and organized game might be really poisonous for Finland. Disjointed and open doors kind of game with lots of goals like Canada game might suit Finland better because clearly there is no problem with scoring lots of goals. I wonder how the Canada game might have played out in the end if Vehvilainen had not sucked and the game had stayed 0-0 for much longer.

Can someone summarize the injury situation with Sweden (besides Nylander)?

Sebastian Aho & Ollas Mattsson is out.

I think the poster pretty clearly stated that no such game ever took place, so no television sets could not possibly have been thrown out of any windows - you must have been dreaming or thinking US team in Nagano. You know kids imagining things and all that :)

That said, Sweden was my horse before the tournament and still is. They play pretty decent ice hockey.

I have not watched Finland do I really do not know about this matchup, but Sweden got no apparent problems with any the parts of the team while Finland apparently have some.

If Finland's first line makes up for deficiencies on the team, then they might win. But it does not really sound as the best of scenario for Finland.

Penalties. We take more than any other team. On the other hand, our PK has been fantastic with only one goal allowed (a 3-on-5 against Canada).

Expect to have a field day with our defense, that's for sure. Just put some pressure on them and they're in trouble.

Goaltending has been an issue, but that's mostly on Vehviläinen. Kähkönen is still untested and played ok against Canada, so we'll see how that goes.

Lets say I liked our chances better coming into the final in 14, and even then I had Sweden as the clear favorite. Sure you had a better team than this time around at least on paper, although I think you have a more balanced team this year.

Sweden vs Finland = Finland

USA vs Russia = USA

-------------------------

USA vs Finland = Finland

USA and Sweden with the wins, no homer, it's simply based on that USA and Sweden have been more impressive so far.

Russia has no chance against US, while Finland will give Sweden a fight (as always), but the Swedish team is better overall and much deeper (as always). Nice feather in the hat for Finland beating Canada, but that was the weakest Canadian team I've seen for a long time.

USA - RUS: 4-1
SWE - FIN: 3-2

One of the round robin groups were simply much stronger than the other one. Sweden slaughtered Slovakia, USA slaughtered Czech Republic, Russia barely beat Denmark and Finland barely beat Canada.

Same could be said about Finland wining against canada or swiss almost beating canada or russia almost loosing against the danes lol Im sticking to my gut and say Russia beats States in a nail biter if anything thats what russia wants to be the underdog more pressure and i notice they play better when under pressure they need to step it up and play more aggresive not this standing around ******** they were doing the past 2 games . WE got this GO RUSSIA !

Yeah, Russia needs to step up their game. Kind of feel bad for Denmark when they were so close but at the same time it makes the semi more fun with Russia in it. Had a russian friend over at my place and we watched all games, he was quite upset when Denmark took the lead both times and was sitting here and screaming like a maniac.

Looking at it objectively you would have to say Sweden should win the game. They have better goal tending and markedly better defense and overall team structure.

I haven't really seen any flaws in their game since the messy pre-tournament game vs. Canada.

That being said you'd think Sweden and Söderström would have one bad game at some point, perhaps it is tomorrow.

The Finns are coming off a wild, intense and emotional game and should be riding the momentum.

Meanwhile Sweden played a clinical ho-hum cakewalk type of quarterfinal where they could have been sipping red-wine and playing ping-pong without really being challenged in any capacity.

If team Finland were to lose I hope they at least go down blazing and not without a fight.

That is what i moste fear tbh you cant go undefeated throug a whole tournament.

Is there any confirmation as to the start times? Which matchup gets the early-afternoon slot? I would imagine Finland choosing the early one for getting extra rest in case they will make it to the final.

USA have never beaten Russia in the playoff round of the WJHC. So this either will be the first win for the USA or Russia will continue to dominate.

Sweden-Finland. Want to see more magic from Puljujarvi and Laine.

:shakehead

Allsvenskan goalkeeper hiding behind his team.

Not like this boys. 14 games this season for Söderström in a team named after some white horse. This guy wouldn't have even made Finnish team had he the luck to born Finnish.

Anything else than
1. USA
2. Sweden
3. Finland
4. Russia
would surprise me.

But as someone wrote, tomorrow could be the day Sweden ***** the bed.
